I miss watching Gilbo, Goddard and Chips starting on the half back line. What a glorious side that was...Finishing at the same time as old mate BJ too.

All the best Gilbo. I thought it was pretty clear when all the boys got to him after that goal that he had somewhat decided. But the wording of the media release seems to suggest it wasn't on his terms. Alas.

Congrats Gilbo on your career mate. Always had respect for you unlike a lot of people. He is a great guy to.

Massive fan of Gilbo, he always reminded me of better times for the club: when he came good (and his best was very good) in 09 and 10 so did we. Like another poster said, his goal in the drawn Grand Final was amazing: possibly the biggest roar I've ever let out as we knew we were coming for them then!

His evasiveness was fantastic and that's a rare quality. His tackling was fantastic and he'd take a risk with his kicking. Unfortunately with his kicking, it didn't always turn out and that's why he divided opinion.

I'll miss watching him. He was a brave player in every respect and a great clubman.

Late to the party I know, but wanted to add that even as recently as 2016 Gilbo played some fantastic footy for us. That season is often overlooked IMO. He was super solid in defence yet rarely received credit from the fans and wider AFL community who only noticed the occasional bad clanger.

Thanks Gilbo for being a true clubman and congratulations on an underappreciated career. :thumbsu:

Sam's kicking skills were often a talking point with Saints fans.

However the fact that the only real negatives to be found over 13 years and more than 200 games are a few errant kicks, to me just shows what a champ he's been for our club.

Well done Gilbo [emoji1303]

the last of that fantastic group that got us oh so close in 2009/2010 .....
well done on a great career Gilbo

He should have been AA in 2009. At that time he was an incredible player who just fitted into Lyon's system so perfectly.

One of the most one-sided players I've ever seen though :)

Thanks for the memories Gilbo and good luck.
