People need to calm down with the HBF situation.

Pittard, Irra, Toumpas gone. Broadbent and Hartlett coming back from injury. We've brought in Burton and Mayes who can both play HBF, but also on a wing or half-forward.

Dodongo hopes you play him up forward. Has the potential to be your Wingard replacement. Has kicked 3-4 goals in a few games before Leppitsch tried to turn him into a defender.

Be more optimistic Port fans. You have a gem here. You will see.

Great to see the positive reactions in this thread

Welcome to Port Adelaide Sam, hope you settle back in SA and fulfil your junior potential.

A short bio from his draft year - taken at pick 8 in the 2012 National Draft.

A very silky user of the ball, Mayes is a terrific lead-up forward, despite his height, with excellent marking abilities and good acceleration, which usually leaves defenders in his wake. He won’t stop working until a goal is kicked. Mayes is one of the best kicks of the ball in the draft, which will hold him in good stead when he moves to the midfield later in his career.

Has played 101 games by the age of 24, you don't do that by being an ordinary footballer. I for one would like to get around Sam, as i like to get around players that want to be a part of our club and i quickly forget those that don't. Danny Meyer Mk II, Jimmy Toumpas, Jay Nash.. yeah okay lets just knock the shit out of the bloke who hasn't even played a game for us.

like this pick up.

hes different from mckenzie/toumpas cases where he was injured in a bottom team and couldnt get a game. Moreso his club was heading in a different direction. Its unfair in his case to be labelled just another palyer who couldnt get a game in a bottomside club

You've got a ripping fella on your hands - I think every Lions fan wants to see him do really well. Outside of last year he played his best footy under vossy as a half forward in his debut season (kicked 4 in a half one game) so I'm optimistic he will get back on track for you guys.

As others have said a personal situation probably affected his form this year so I wouldn't worry too much about that.
