Sam Mitchell... GONE!

The Toronto Raptors fired coach Sam Mitchell on Wednesday, one day after a 39-point loss to the Denver Nuggets left the team with a losing record, an NBA source said.


One source close to the team said the Raptors’ players were informed of Mitchell’s dismissal on Wednesday afternoon. Raptors GM Bryan Colangelo named Jay Triano as the interim coach.

Good point. Forgot Eddie Jordan got the flick. Number 4 then.

Because he's out of his depth with a very capable play-off calibre squad that is playing crap basketball all too often. His post-match presser after the Orlando game last week was hilarious and sad at the same time trying to explain how they lost. He's feeling the heat.

* Bryan Colangelo decided to pull the rug out from under Sam Mitchell on Wednesday, in part, because of something that could happen a year and a half from now. Colangelo's swift decision on Mitchell -- who was hardly in Eddie Jordan's or P.J. Carlesimo's shoes at 8-9 -- was a sure sign that the Raptors' GM is getting nervous about losing Chris Bosh as a free agent in 2010 and needs the team to win now. Like, RIGHT NOW. There were whispers on Toronto's West Coast trip -- which Colangelo conspiciously attended -- that Mitchell wasn't using some of the Raptors' personnel to Colangelo's satisfaction. Most people around the league think Bosh is gone anyway in 2010, but Colangelo feels he has to do everything he can to protect his investment.

Bad news for Raps fans, I think out of all the big-name out of contract players in 2010 (including LBJ) Bosh is the most likely to leave/sign a contract with another club.

Not a bad team. With at least 2 lottery picks in the next 2 drafts, and a 2st rounder from Houston this year, I am confident Petrie will be 2-3 really good NBA players.
