I know there are other Sam Reid threads, but I couldnt find the last one. So will start a new one until one of the mods intervenes.

But I am having a bit of anxiety attack about Sam Reid's contract. I understand that he is contracted until the end of this year and surely he is going to be one of GWS's top targets. I read recently that Ben Reid is a GWS target and if they were to get him, then I think we could be in a bit of strife.

Maybe I am biased, but I think Sam will be one of the best forwards in the comp within 3 years, yet dare post on one of the main forums that you wouldnt swap Reid for Hurley or Cotchin and you will be hounded out and burnt for witchcraft.

And this is what worries me most, if we were to lose Sam at the end of the year. I doubt we would get fair compo in return (in my eyes - 2 first round picks).

He reminds me so much of Nick Reiwoldt (including the dodgy kicking), although I think Reid will never have the endurance that Reiwoldt has - but I think he will always play closer to goal. 1 first round draft pick would never have been fair compo for Reiwoldt, even 2 picks wouldnt have been.

Anyways, if someone can reassure me that we arent going to lose Sam and everything is going to be ok - that would be appreicated.

Re: S Reid

Ther's no way in hell we would get teo first round picks for him bsed on what he's done so far. He has shown promise but he hasn't kicked a massive amount of goals.

Re: S Reid

I'm not actually that worried. There haven't been any whispers about him going, and you'd think they'd have started by now.

And it's a bit unreasonable to expect him to sign up yet. He has the chance to have a dominant year next year and really push up his worth. No manager worth their money would encourage him to sign up pre-emptively, whether GWS is in the frame or not.

Besides which, GWS have Patton and Folau, amongst other talls. They'll be chasing a dominant midfielder, and maybe a big-bodied key forward to hold the fort while Patton, Folau and others develop. Sam Reid is neither.

Of course, that's not to say Reid couldn't end up there, but he's not much more likely than any other uncontracted young players out there.

Re: S Reid

He looks happy at Sydney and we should have space in our salary cap to support a big increase in his wage reducing one draw card GWS have. Playing with his brother is the big draw card but GWS's main interest seems to be in Pendlebury and mabe even Cloke {cant believe i havent heard anything about Cloke}. Its for this reason i feel he will stay with us but he will be courted by other clubs as well if he backs next season as well as he did this year.

Hurley seems to be one of their main targets at the moment and they would be unlikely to be able to offer Sam Reid a big contract until Hurley or Ben Reid and Pendlebury say no a senario which seems unlikely early in the year because most players will use GWS as a bargaining tool. This could work to our advantage because they may be unable to actively chase him until late in the year.

Re: S Reid

All the interviews I've seen from Reid he always says how exciting the young group is going to be in a few years time.

And you'd think all the negative headlines lately about GWS would factor in any players decision on whether to sign with them not to mention they have 100k less in their salary cap due to Scullys dad.

I also think GWS main targets will be Hurley and Goldstein.

Re: S Reid

I don't really see the point of getting worried about something that might or might not happen. If he stays, he stays. If he goes, he goes. We will all gnash our teeth and have a good cry but the sky won't fall down and the club will just move on.

Re: S Reid

FWIW here is a link to a Daily Telegraph article which identifies when Sydney players are out of contract.

http://www.dailytelegraph.com.au/sp...n-sydney-in-2012/story-e6frexyi-1226108567158

The club disputed some of the dates, but did not specify which were in error.
LRT & ironically Lewis Johnston subsequently signed new contracts.

I would suggest the Telegraph have the players pretty much in order as to their desirability for GWS; Reid, Rohan, Kennedy.

I doubt ROK or McVeigh would be on their radar.

I've little doubt that both from a playing list perspective, but also a marketing coup (GWS putting one over on their big brother down the road), that Reid would have to be very seriously considered by GWS.

And from my point of view he & Mumford (contracted until 2013, so out of GWS' clutches) are the 2 players going forward that I consider currently pretty close to irreplaceable (allowing for the fact that Goodes is getting closer to the end of his career).

You might be understating it just a little bit there.

Re: S Reid

It would be a tragedy if he left you guys, if he did go I'd say he'd nominate Collingwood or WS, either way you will get screwed, one of the most valuable players in the comp in way of trade IMO, 19 year old power fwd marking machine, true trade value would be staggering IMO, but as I said you will get screwed if the worst happened.

Re: S Reid

Yeah that article had no logic.

Re: S Reid

I honestly think our biggest hope with Reid is if GWS can sign off another big name...

Scully, Ward, Palmer and Davis are already on a fair bit of money... And if they sign an Goddard/ Pendlebury type of player... I wonder how they are going to fit in anyone else under their cap... (They have also said next year they will eb coming out and targeting a ruckman...)

And whilst they could front end contracts... Allot of there players values will be escalated in two or so year... So its going to be very very difficult too gain too many more players in my opinion... (Especially as the salary cap will be decreasing at a similar rate that their players contacts will be increasing...)

Also keep in mind that GWS didn't give regular compensation to both Port (Cournes and Brogan) and Brisbane (Power)... So it is likely that they could be targeting a player from each of those clubs next year... Otherwise they would of given both clubs regular compensation...

I get the feeling yes they will sign a Sydney player... BUT it will most likely be a player that they will be able to keep under there cap...

You can't afford him.

Pendlebury, Ball, O'Brien, Shaw, B Reid all come off contract this year and Thomas and Swan would've took alot out of your salary cap resigning them this year, one of the reasons you lost Davis.
