He gets it a lot, thats for sure, not really able to impact the game like Zaharakis yet.
I noticed Zaharakis got the fabled 20 and 3 on the weekend, Walsh needs to learn the poise and skill from a proven match winner like Zaharakis.
Walsh never kicked the sealer on Anzac Day either I hear. Damning statistic.

Gotta admit, that first goal of his in the wet in the dying seconds is the stuff you do in the backyard as a kid.
Brilliant, ok I still do it in the backyard on the occasion!

Why did Zaharakis retire after that Anzac day game?

And what has he been doing for all those years before his surprise comeback to footy last week?
David won an Anzac Day medal a few years ago too. A big game player obviously. Something Sam will probably never have the opportunity to emulate.

Look I like Sam, he's a decent middle of the run depth player. Every team needs them.

Geez if he's a middle of the run depth player then I would hate to think what plodder McGrath is, this is kind of embarrassing when you remember that he's being compared to a second year player here. Walsh on the left.

We had the luxury of allowing Andy to learn his craft sitting in a star packed backline for years. Paying dividends now too (feel free to compare current year stats).

Like I said I like Sammy. On talent he just seems a bit high for a first round pick, that's all.

So he was playing as an unaccountable half-back with a "star packed backline" around him doing all the heavy lifting and this was still the best he could manage? Damning.

Its called sharing the load friend. Something Carlton could do well in trying to learn. You would think with about 14 number 1 draft picks in the last few years the concept would have sunk in by now :$

Glad you brought this up, it highlights the fundamental weakness in Sams game which stops him from being an effective footballer.
That disposal efficiency is ridiculously low and the turnover stays are very high.
Wouldn't want the ball in his hands.

I think we did alright with that against your mob didn't we?

No that was all our own doing. It just sadly happened that we recruited an ex Tiger flog that deserves to suffer the wrath of watching endless repeats of Sydney games for all eternity. campaigner :mad:

Ridiculously low compared to what? Fyfe maybe? Didn't think ~3% was that big a difference but obviously I need to reassess.

So compared to the guy who has twice as many uncontested possessions as contested then, I see.

p.s. Andy's on the left :think:

So a guy in his 4th season is performing better statistically than a guy in his 2nd? I am shocked to be sitting here.

That's why we compare careers, which even then is of course skewed in McGrath's favour due to this, but somehow he is still behind. We all need middling depth players though I suppose 🤷‍♂️

he's a decent middle of the run depth player. Every team needs them.

And if Essendon acquires a few more such dependable types, they may have a chance of beating Carlton.

Especially if they use these decent middle of the road players to replace under weight, under paced pea heart outside mids.

Don't ask me to name them, they all look alike to me.

Walsh may get a lot more ball, which is fine, but he is no where near as dangerous as Rankine.

Walsh = dependable workhorse.
Rankine = match winner.
Not going to argue Rankine's talent but don't you have to have won at least one game to be a match winner?

We actually know all about shuffling former failed high draft pick mids to the backline. It's a bit of a Carlton tradition
