Samsung - Essendon's New Major Sponsor

WHILE several Victorian clubs scour the bleak corporate landscape for fresh money, Essendon has clinched a deal underlining its huge marketing appeal.

The club has secured a three-year sponsorship arrangement with Samsung for $7 to 7.5 million.

The Bombers say it is the "biggest individual annual club sponsorship in AFL history".

In return, Samsung will receive naming rights on the front and back of the club jumper, plus signage, for the period 2009-11.

Mentioned yesterday that Samsung are going to be our major sponsor next season.

Brings an end to 6 (?) years with 3 Mobile.

Shame, I like 3 as our sponsor, but I guess Samsung would be better for the club. Also sucks because we can't have Essendon v Australia anymore.

Massive coup for us with Samsung - they're a giant in every facet of the technological and telelcommunications industries.

The financial planner I deal with - who is also a massive Bombers fan (30 odd years) stated giants such as this wouldn't normally consider a team from a sport which isn't popular outside of its own country.

Makes sense when you think about it - the only other team that I can think of that has a major sponsor which didn't originate from Australian shores is Collingwood with Emirates - although Richmond had Motorola also.

Massive pat on the back to whomever brokered this partnership.

What are the odds the Aussie cricket team will go to Samsung?

The Aussies went to Orange in 01-02. As did Essendon. Aussies and Essendon have both been with 3 ever since.

I doubt that will be the actual logo the big blue thing. They did that with the Roosters uniform too when they first started supporting them, it is now blended in with the uniform.
