Scam Pop Ups

Just earlier I had an ad takeover the page talking about a chance to win an iPhone or Samsung or whatever. I couldn’t click off the ad without clicking on OK which takes you further into the scam. I had to shutdown the page.



Latest advice 6/3/19:

There is lots of discussion about this issue around the web.

The common advice seems to be:

• Settings > Safari > Clear History and Website Data
• Also be sure that Block Pop-ups is turned on.

Connected phone to computer and started deleting files from android folder like a mad man - Nothing! Deleted all browsing & data history etc. Did nothing.

I have personally had at least one report from a former worker at a big media company, one that specialises in news websites and the like, that they had the problem and in their case it came from "search ads" - we don't run those.

Thanks - ad network has had other sites reporting it.

Suspicion is on browser malware or add-on that hacks into a link in the chain between the web site and the ad server to deliver the unwanted ad code.

Nothing definite yet though.

Same here. They seem to load between the last post on a page and the link to the next page. Super annoying as that's where you naturally go to click after reading the last post.

Every time I use my iPhone and open a new page on this forum I’m getting redirected to this. Have had this happen occasionally before but never with this frequency, makes the website impossible to access on my phone.
