With all the focus on Moore,i'd like to say that after watching this goal on
replay, courtesy of Big Pong. It was a great effort! Under pressure, Port fans
giving him the treatment. He juggled the ball a couple of times, and then must
have thought,f---k it,i can kick this, then unloads with a perfect banana kick
straight through the middle of the sticks. Great goal at a crucial time in the
game!

the mark was good enough!
although i think foxtel callers said it was a free kick, but i thought he did enough to be paid the mark, and there was no doubt surjan was all over him
to be honest, surjan should be copping a rocket from his club for such a poor, clumsy attempt at spoiling
but all credit to schmidt, and he then buttered up and fed the glorious handball to mcveigh for the last goal
although jacks and ablett did plenty in the lead-up too

I was sitting right behind Schmidt. It was definitely a free paid by the umpire, though I agree that he probably held it long enough to be paid the mark. And Micky's "advice" to Schmidt was quite clear to see too, though I wasn't sure whether Schmitty had noticed it because he was intent on lining up his shot.

Could you please elaborate?

It was given as a free, but assumedly would have paid as a mark if there was no infringement. I've noticed the umps tend to do that alot, particuarly if the mark is not clear cut. I always feel that the player is getting robbed - getting a free kick against their name instead of a tough, overhead mark.

Brilliant kick by the way, split the center like a protractor. Even more impressive given what was riding on it.

Agreed Costanza, text book banana kick. Didnt see if Mickey o had a word or
not,but think he does give advice on boundary kicks at training. It was for me
a defininate mark.

Didn't you see it in the newspaper? Double page spread

Apparently Schmidt was about to try a drop punt when Micky whispered in his ear for him to 'Go the banana' instead.

Thanks.

Not really on topic but Mark Williams really goes have a man crush on Brett Kirk. I heard him singing Kirk's praises before the Dreamteam game (saying how he was a brilliant leader) and now this

Williams couldn't help but marvel at the efforts of Sydney's inspirational midfielder Brett Kirk, who helped turn the game when the Swans seemed buried.

"His tackling and his hard-ball gets and his clearance numbers are just outstanding,'' Williams said.

"To have a leader like that to drag them over the line and do what he does. Roosy would be disappointed that he's 30 or 31 and that he can't be there forever.''

You cant have him Choco :D

Haha - I saw him at the Port game in Round 2 and when he saw Brettles jog onto the field to inspect it he got a little shifty.

Seems he's a nail biter :D

It was paid a free kick for the opponent chopping his arms I think it was. Either way, when I saw the replay, it looked like a mark. Great mark by Schmidt I thought.

pretty sure the free was for over the shoulder, coz that was certainly obvious in the photo in sunday's papers
that's why it was a great mark anyway, coz he copped about three kinds of interference and still held it
and then the kick!!!

Not a whisper in the ear. Mick was standing a few yards away. He just did a mime of a banana kick, which Schmidt obviously picked up on.
