What is with that catch over the boudary. I would have assumed that it was out, but the commentators (who are usually on the money) are'nt questioning the decision at all. They all agree that the umpire made the correct decision.

I suppose that if he did control, he would have thrown it straight up in the air.

Australia brings up it's 100 with a 4!

Australia 1/103 off 22 overs
Australia RR: 4.72

Hayden 46
Ponting 19

Current Partnership 36 runs

you dont know the rule. the player has to be in control of the ball. clearly he was still falling from the process of taking the catch.

boy england are getting smashed. 5 per over. at this rate, australia will be around 450+ at the end of the day, and they are only 1 wicket down.

englands attack has been left wanting, that white bloke is clearly not up to the standard. absolute trollop. also the hype surrounding caddick has proved to be just that, hype.

If he'd tried to complete the catch, he would have ended up falling over the boundary rope, and it would have been 6 runs. Showed the fieldsman had his wits about him, he knew the rule and the catch wouldn't have stood if he had gone over the boundary, and I'd say he was trying to throw it up in the air high enough to get back his balance and catch the ball again. The execution didn't quite come off though.

Do they throw towels in at cricket games?
What a joke. I refuse to believe Aust is that good a side. However, I do believe that ENG are that poor a side. Tix should be half-price for the rest of the season.:o

The Poms also didn't question the decision. They didn't celebrate when he took it,so they knew it would be notout.

Its a bit similar to Herschelle Gibbs in the World Cup a few years ago.He took a catch, but didn't hold it long enough.

The rule says that for a catch to be complete the fielder must be in control of the ball and in control of his own movement.

Australia 1-336

Hayden 172
Ponting 122

The blokes on ABC radio are already talking up Hayden getting at Lara's individual Test record innings of 375.

Very surprising if Australia don't get to 400 by stumps, with 14 overs to go.

and here they were feeling mighty proud of themselves for going toe to toe with a west australian side.

Appalling effort by England today, the only thing you could say in their defence was that West Indies effort on the 1st day of the Gabba Test two years ago (bowled out well under 100, Aust leading on first day) was worse.

Hayden got the biggest score of the day, but Ponting was the star player of the day. In all the hubub and talk on other Australian members of the side, it's been somewhat ignored how good Ponting has been since midway through the Ashes tour. He is finally fulfilling his potential on a consistent basis and I dare say the captaincy has helped him mature as a player and a person. His innings until his unlucky dismissal was faultless.

Hayden may very well get his highest Test score tomorrow, but by his own standards it wasn't one of his best innings. He was iffy with the pull shot and could've been out a couple of times if luck hadn't gone his way. And he became very sloppy after he scored the century, if it wasn't for England incompetence he could've been out several times to a series of rash strokes - when a massive score is there for the taking. But I guess tiredness may have played a part.

Having said that, his driving was superb today and even the ones that didn't go off the middle of the bat seemed to go for four. His attacking shots to the "spin" of Giles were also superb; hard to believe that it wasn't that long ago that Hayden was considered
vulnerable against spin - now he's as good as anyone going around.

The only worry for Australia today was Langer. He hit some nice boundaries but he never looked solid and was very vulnerable to the early swing of Hoggard. I'd say he will struggle in this series more then the other Austarlian batsmen.

The English bowling was ordinary at best, the fielding was deplorable. They've brought some stodgy fielders over here in the past but as a team, that was the worst fielding performance I've seen by an English team during a day's play.
