Ok - lots of talk re delistings, new draft picks, who we have picked up etc and the future continues to look better and better as far as the player group goes.........................however - where is the answer to scoring goals? Yep I love Clokey (and this question is not in relation to him as an individual) but we continue to persevere with a plan that simply is not working - so what are we going to do or will we still be talking about this again next year?????? No good having the best 3/4's of a team in the league if we cannot split the middle sticks!!!!!! I think some of our games where we have scored well may have been more good luck than good management?

thoughts, criticisms most welcome. I want another premiership!!!!!!!!!

Fix the issues up the ground with our piss-poor ball movement and all of our forwards will start getting the ball in more favourable positions and not have to work as hard to get their hands on the pill - that should and more than likely will translate into hitting the scoreboard more often and more accurately.

I'd actually like to see Trav and even Jesse if he gets on the paddock having to work less up the ground and being able to use their athleticism more to turn opponents around and make them look silly inside F50 more often. Our forwards have the tools - we're just supremely inept at getting the ball to them and have been for the past 2-3 years if we want to be honest about it.

For the record every single player misses easy ones, even the best kicks in the game. The ones we miss are just magnified because we struggle to actually get the ball to them in the first place, due to the way we often flap around aimlessly with the ball up the ground just to end up bombing a high, slow ball into F50 anyway, by which time the opposition has pushed eleventy-seven players back to clog things up (which is frustrating on every count).

Goals depend on opportunities and conversion rates. Our conversion rate wasn't that bad 2-15but several players missed sitters a number of times. collective yips? The only hope is that confidence and success wipes the yips. There is no doubt the number and quality of opportunities will improve in 2016.

For all the talk about Travis Cloke going to shit, he was on track to kick over 40 if he'd played 22 games this year, so with improved ball-movement and delivery from our midfield, I'd still be going into this season expecting 50 goals from him.

We can get 30+ out of Jamie if he plays permanently forward, and 20-odd out of each of Howe, Moore, White and Fasolo. If Swan spends more time up forward and guys like Pendlebury, Sidebottom, Crisp and Treloar chip in with goals from the midfield, I don't forsee goals being a huge problem for us.

Agree, pretty sure he kicked less than 40 goals in 2010 and IIRC we went alright that year

Didak was our leading goalkicker in 2010 from memory... Cloke's scoring wasn't integral at all to our gameplan. He was more utilised as a get-out-of-jail card from the backline with his strong marking.

so no real plan then - keep using what we have over the last couple of years? Sorry - doesn't work for me - and doesn't appear to have worked for us as a team either. Definition of insanity - doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result. I also hope it comes together like you say but sorry have my doubts at the moment - and the comment about our forwards having it difficult to get the ball doesn't explain the multitude of goals missed from inside 20????

It was revealed at the recent Member Forum that we have snapped up (ex-Hawk) Ben Dixon as our goalkicking coach, so that's at least a sign that they're trying to improve things.

Edit: I should add that I'm amazed that the news about his appointment didn't warrant a thread of it's own. Perhaps the regular thread-starters must have missed this revelation!

I reckon Travis Cloke is set to have arguably the best season of his career in 2016 and potentially kick over 70+ goals and also win the Coleman medal. There's a number of factors pointing towards Cloke having a breakout season next year.

• Collingwood adding the likes of Aish and Treloar who are excellent users of the ball and good midfield supply/delivery will see more forward 50 entries with efficiency

• Another pre-season for Darcy Moore and he will form an good duo and give Cloke some more freedom and one on one's inside Collingwood's forward 50

• The return of Ben Reid who will take away a good defender with him and stop opposition teams from double teaming Cloke most of the time. The more one on one's Cloke has, the more likely he will win those contests which will generate into more scoring shots for the Pies

• The inclusion of Jeremy Howe on the half forward flank and veteran Dane Swan spending more time up forward as he reaches the twilight of his career will give Collingwood a ton of goal kicking options inside 50. This will be the most potent forward-line Nathan Buckley will have so far during his time at Collingwood

HF:
Howe, Cloke, Swan

F: Moore, Reid, Elliot

Every year we get excited about the new recruits that have been brought in, I remain on the fence. Treloar is the only walk in best 22 player we've drafted, and the truth is Howe and Aish are going to be fringe players next year, Howe will be competing with Broomhead, Blair, Fasolo, Swan and Goldsack over possibly 2 spots.

Aish will compete with Crisp, Goldsack, DeGoey, Sharon, Maynard, and Broomhead. Lots of different players but he is very versatile.

Moore will be a second year key position player, and there's every chance he will get a case of the second year blues and spend a bit of time developing in the VFL, and his backups are White, Cox, Witts and Gault, hardly quality forwards.

On Ben Reid, I always liked him as a forward but after watching him late last year I am convinced he adds much more to us in defence, and I think he will play there more often as of next year if he can stay on the park.

Don't just assume it's going to be a walk in the park for Cloke, as I think the most improvement need to come from within himself. He needs to lead to the ball more instead of standing stationary with his arms up. His contested marking was down this year of previous years, and hopefully Ben Dixon can tell him something that will make him kick better.

Sorry to cut you down, just a difference of opinion.

What the?

Agree wholeheartedly there - let's just stick to playing our AA CHB where he plays his best football (we need a calm head and steady hand down there now anyway as we've been missing that since Maxy left the building).

Sorry for sticking my nose in but I'm also bullish on Cloke for 2016. Not WWSD level bullish, Cloke won't win the Coleman, but I reckon if he stays fit he should be good for 60 goals. I'm looking at AFL Fantasy bargains and I think he'll be right up there after a couple of modest seasons have knocked some value off him.

I know it's the Collingwood way to fight over Nathan Buckley but I reckon you got the right guy in charge and you'll be in the main pack chasing the 5-8 spots along with us and a host of other teams. No guarantees in this life but really expect you guys to make it this year.

Confidence is a wonderful thing.
Good delivery, good disposal all assists.

We probably are as good set shots as most teams

Well said,
Ican see him having avery strong year, he just needs good support around him (for me Reid) and he will always take the opposition best defender sometimes a few of them.

As an aside, as you are a Port supporter, i see Port as the big challenger this year, top 4for me

We could be anything from 1st to 12th. Absolutely no excuse for us to not be top 4 next year but there was no excuse for us to not be top 4 this year and we didn't fire a bloody shot. *shakes head*

Hine himself said Swan would play alot more on the forward line this year. I actually see him playing deeper forward in the pocket. There won't be many small defenders that could out muscle Swanny in a contest. If he plays this role he will go close to being our leading goalkicker IMO.

I am extremely excited about him embracing the role.

Happens
Sometimes, a few losees, dents confidence,
Very competitive.
Lets just say if you get in afinal v Hawthorn there will be many many many magpies supporting Port.
You could be the side to knock the hawks out.
