Jax for Haileybury surely. Wonder where in Bayside Pendles moved to, his place looks bloody big, huge yard.

I can't see him coaching for near twenty years. By the time he is Mccrae's age he will have gained the appropriate experience. If McRae ends up being a successful coach, Pendles may never actually get to coach Collingwood.
Agreed. The only conflict here is the possible inference that Matthew's demonstrated champion players/leaders can virtually step into head coach position. I believe football has moved a long way since then, that a champion head coach is more likely going to come from someone who has years of experience in the coaching game at AFL level. The Hird/Voss/Buckley experiment failed and I think in all three cases the outcome might have been different if they had some years under their belt. You’d hope the club would’ve learnt from the Tony shaw experiment, but they didn’t.
Now you’d hope they’d learn from that in addition with the Buckley experiment.
(Haven’t bothered to mention the bob rose experiment)
But too often emotion gets in the way of logic at collingwood.
The 3 most ruthless and best decisions at collingwood in the last 40 years.
- Leigh Matthew’s propelled into head coach early taking over from bob rose
- Move on from shaw, headhunt a proven winner and culture setter in Mick Malthouse
- Move on Buckley and conduct a process to find a proven winner and culture setter in Craig McRae

Both Voss and Buckley definitely were appointed way too soon. They needed experience from outside their own clubs, and probably suffered for it. Voss at least has been given a second chance, but not without a lot of hard work along the way.Agreed. In Hird's case I would assume more experience and he wouldn't have let the supplement saga happen. Experience counts for something - look at the change in training which I assume is at least partly coming from McCrae's experience. Both Voss and Buckley definitely were appointed way too soon. Hopefully he is happy just to play another year and that trend continues for 3 more years. He has over 350 games. He cant really expect to sign multi year deals this late into his career. He is still above league standard and I hope the club is happy for him to play until he isnt AFL quality any more or his body fails him.Pendles has made some offhand comments recently regarding multi-year deals for his playing future. He made a comment in his speech accepting the life membership at the AGM, and he said it in the Roaming Bolts video at training.
I wonder if those comments belie a bit of a standoff with Wrighty on re-signing? There seemed to be a little bit of tension at his last re-signing when he eventually got his way with a two-year deal.
Obviously I don't think there's a risk he goes to play for any other club, but maybe if he is just offered a one-year deal and the club doesn't budge, he'll just retire and move into coaching straight away?
I agree with you but I was a little miffed that he held out for the two-year deal at the end of 2021 and even made public comments about the negotiations when he was happy to take a one-year deal for 2021 before the 2020 season even started.Hopefully he is happy just to play another year and that trend continues for 3 more years. he was a solid trier ( i think he may even have won a best and fairest). The problem is he is one of the two blokes (Jason Wild being the other) that defined the Tony Shaw era and I can never forget that![]()
Sidebottom is contracted for next year.Last year for Pendles?
Last year for Howe and Steele too?
legends but time marches on.
Ideal finish for all three would be in a Collingwood premiership.Last year for Pendles?

Yes I'm thinking he will as well.Scott will break the games record.

Bob Rose was an unlucky bounce away from being a Collingwood premiership coach.Buckley was a lucky free kick away from being a Collingwood premiership coach.
Malthouse was a lucky bounce away from not being a Collingwood premiership coach.

After he loses his spot on the wing I really hope they put him as a crumbing forwardSidebottom is contracted for next year.
Bob Rose was an unlucky bounce away from being a Collingwood premiership coach.
Tom Hafey was an idiot away from being a Collingwood premiership coach.
I wonder if Pendles becomes the ultimate 23rd player - he's the guy you want fit at the end of the game (he was significant in a lot of our close wins this year). Not playing 100% game time might also help extend his career.Yes I'm thinking he will as well.
Fit and has at least 2 to 3 years left.
Doesn't get injured often.
Not sure you can describe Rose to Matthews as ruthless. Rose rang Matthews after the 3rd round in 1986 and told him it was time for Matthews to take over. Rose was the architect of that change. You’d hope the club would’ve learnt from the Tony shaw experiment, but they didn’t.
Now you’d hope they’d learn from that in addition with the Buckley experiment.

No maybes about that. McKenna was on fire in the GF and kicked 40% of our goals that season. Him getting concussed in the 2nd q was the difference. He had 5 goals to that pointTwo idiots… you forgot the the boundary umpire
And another unlucky bounce for Rose…. If Tuddy hadn’t “ bounced” into McKenna in 1970 then maybe we’d have won that flag.
