Player Watch Scott Pendlebury

It seems out of character for Pendles to draw such “player ahead of team” attention to himself.

I’m sure the opposition coach will be using it as motivation to get his players fired up to make Pendles eat dirt. We would, if the situation was reversed.

I get the marketing angle but we could just sell jumpers with sparkling golden number 10’s on them, without Pendles actually having to play in one, too.

When Pendlebury was drafted to Collingwood, Bert Newton was still hosting Good Morning Australia.
And now here's Moira...
Kevin Sheedy was still coaching Essendon.

Essendon haven’t won a final since Pendles debut and now he’s 431 games in

Haha, that's an amazing stat.

Pity we're not playing Bombers for Pendles record breaking game. We could milk it even more.

Once he breaks the record, the conversation will turn towards 2027.
At this stage, have to say he plays on.

Consider that according to some (i.e. one of 2542 daily opinions and parameters) stuff he's currently rated in the top 15 players in the league, we should be looking at a 4 year extension. Minimum..

Only six people in the entire history of the game have played over 400 games. Six.

Pendlebury is about to break the current record and his new record set at the end of his career may never be beaten.

When it comes to milestone games it doesn't get any bigger and it's totally appropriate that the club and player look to maximise the occasion and it's celebration. It's a once in a lifetime moment for the football club, and remarkable personal achievement by Pendlebury, and should be treated as such.

Instead of people whinging, perhaps they should just be bloody grateful that Pendlebury is all ours, and they've lived in an era where they got to see him play.

He absolutely should play on if he wants to. Playing the best he has in years, and over the last few games has been one of the best in the comp

Bont's on track.

Bont will do well to pass the WB games record of 364 games. That's be five years from now and he'll be turning 36.
Who knows on injury and motivation, but think he could do what Zorko does when he's pretty old. Zorko can.

400 is the new 300.

I remember Tony Shaw limping past 306....

Now Crispy is on track to play 300 in a row, and weve seen Pendles, Sidey, Willo, Heath cruise past 300.

Kids like Sheezel and the younger Ashcroft are my picks to play 400 as well as the Bont. Pendles (and Boomer to a lesser extent) have opened the door to clubs not retiring players simply on age anymore and I think footy is better for it.

Zorko played his first AFL game at 23.....

Freak.

Pendles was already a Norm Smith winning Premiership player 100 plus games in at the same age.

Lucky for Crazy Vossy because Pendles record would only be a lasting a season or two!

Pendles should do the right thing in the face of the gold numbers backlash.
He should retire quietly after the Geelong game IF he gets picked.

Bit confused as to how you get Crazy Vossy involved in this?
Zorko didn't play until he was 23 because the Suns ( and everyone else) refused to recruit him , presumably because of his annoying personality. Didn't stop the even worse Brendan Fevola being recruited of course.

I suspect the Ashcrofts will retire from football long before 400 games. With the massive salaries they will be getting, I doubt they will want to hang around until their mid 30's.
Why bang up your body for so long when you've amassed a fortune and can retire and start a new career.
