He would compliment our young midfield wonderfully. But Hutchy just makes this sh*t up, I'm sure of it. He has to fill an hour in on Footy Classified somehow. With Goodwin, Edwards and McLeod probably in their last year, keeping Scott Thompson at the Adelaide Footy Club would be a big priority I'm sure. I'd be happy to welcome back Scotty with open arms though. Daniher screwed us royally with not playing Thompson early in his career. Thompson, Sylvia, Moloney, Davey, Green, Grimes, McKenzie, Gysberts, Scully and Trengove running through the midfield in the coming years would be very nice indeed....

Firstly, I don't believe there is any chance of this happening, but if he did want to come back...

There is no way I would trade for him, it would have to Adam McPhee-style, through the PSD. This has nothing to do with the fact he is a mummy's boy or his footballing ability, but the position he plays. Unless a player is going dirt cheap then I would only trade for a key forward as that has got to be priority at the moment.

Insane call.

Every team needs more midfielders all the time.

Think we have a enough after the past 3 drafts, and you trade for a need, not just for the sake of it, if we got got thompson cheaply i would be all for it, but i dont think we would. I think we need another tall forward option.

Could we trade Meesen back to them?

After all he was a top 10 pick.

;)

He'd be getting old wouldn't he? FFS can we focus on the players we have got, instead of worrying about players that walked out on us 6 years ago. :o

The thing is he is an elite midfielder. If he came out and said he wanted to play for Melbourne, or do it the luke ball way then I don't think we would complain.

If he gets put in our midfield it is one less good tag for someone else. And the point is we won't get him the McPhee way. Plain and simple. If we got him it would be for trading. Other clubs will want him.

Just googled S.Thompson to find out how old he is (27), and found out we received pick 12 for him, which ultimately led to us picking N.Jones. Not a bad return.:thumbsu: Jones has allot more upside, and is 6 years younger.

I suggest you look here.

2004 AFL Draft

We traded Scott Thompson to Adelaide for Pick 12.

Pick 12 was on-traded by us to Geelong for Brent Moloney.

Pick 12 and Pick 16 were traded by Geelong to Richmond for Brad Ottens.

Richmond selected Danny Meyer with Pick 12.

We had picks 13 (Matthew Bate) and 15 (Lynden Dunn) in the 04 draft, Jonesy was taken pick 12 in the 2005 Draft.

Heh. Looked one year ahead, my mistake. Well we received Moloney then. :thumbsu::)

He's not elite imo. He was bordering on it but I think he has stalled to the point of now only being a good player. Tbh i'd rather Moloney

We effectively traded him for Moloney. It's fair to say that Thompson is a better player than Moloney, but considering we were forced to trade him, we did well to get a player like Beamer out of the deal.

I think I was in year 11 when I heard about the trade. It was maths it was actually pretty comical. This teacher was cool he did a mini the English is a dumb language class for the first couple of weeks.

Anywho he was listening to SEN. I went to school in Geelong so theybwabted ottens. And I he told us about ottens I almost jumped out of my
skin. Was around 6 years ago now :O.

My point is (in a round about way) that the only reason why we go that deal for ottens is because beamer wanted to come to Melbourne. He put his hand up. Moloney was a bargain because he was one of us when he was younger. A fanatic

'theybwabted' ???

Almost certain he didn't actually. I remember a interview saying that he was quite happy being at Geelong , however Melb wanted him and the fact that he was a Melb supporter growing up softened the move.

If he actually did come back to Melbourne (which I really doubt will happen), I wouldn't necassarily be exstatic about it, but I wouldn't be complaining either. He is a reasonable player and I would learn to accept him, even though he blew his chances and may not really deserve the second chance lol.

It was a choice between him and one other and of the two he put was more willing to go thus me seeing him as he putting his hand up. Granted wasn't as black and white as I initiated but none the less

Not close to what you first suggested but, I like your honesty...

I would rather scott thompson over luke ball any day. even goold old brock mclean is a far better player than that prima donna - really happy Ball went to the Pies instead.

scott thompson would be a great pick up...another dangerous goal kicking midfielder/half forward who could rotate through those roles with Sylvia/Green/Bate/Morton/Davey and would make us even harder to match up on. Plus he would be 28 by the time he got here so would add some invaluable experience to our young midfield group (with junior and Bruce either out or on the way out at that stage)...Got some size and grunt about him as well

no need to get all sanctimonious about the fact that he left us in '05...
