The interview was the final mistake but he'd been totally out of control for a while before that. He was coach and self appointed list manager, president, board, contract negotiator...the list goes on.
The midget was insane.

He also decided to play Saad in Brisbane ( when the whole drug saga was going on) without telling anyone else

Watters was an egomaniac, an absolutely shocking appointment for our club. Cutting our losses when we did was the best thing we have ever done.
If he had have stayed coach then Roo would be into his fourth year as a Collingwood player, Joey would be gone and our young kids would be in a mess.
And that's just what he did when he was at the club, not taking into consideration his nocturnal habits.
Why do you think a dwarf was set on fire? Joey hired him as a joke about the despised Watters. Good riddance to the little big man.

huh?

The turning point for me was the news that came out after the game against Port at Etihad (a rare occurrence in itself!): We were losing dismally, and at half time the older guys, Roo and Joey etc, told Watters he didn't have a clue, and so they effectively coached the team in the second half. Steven was huge in that half, our players had a proper structure and responded, and we nearly won.

That was Normandy. The rest was just mopping up until the end.

Wow , thats really concerning, ive never heard that . Thats full on mutiny, sackable in buisness , Death in War.

I don't believe that to be true. I do know most of players didn't rate him at all. Young or old. The guy was fruitloop.

Watson was merely inept whilst Watters was very capable of doing horrendous things to the club.

True! Watson took us from Finals to Wooden spoon at a rate of knots! Thereby snaring us Nick Riewoldt and Justin Kozitche! Also sending membership numbers south! AND preparing us for Blight and " the ride of our life" [emoji849][emoji849]

Interesting to hear just how disliked he was by the playing group, even some of the stories in this thread I haven't heard before. Any more?
Two that I know.

Somebody here (I can't remember who) said that once they were at training and afterwards, Scotty was wandering around all over the place - then he came up to the poster and asked if they'd seen his bag. It turned out the players had taken it and hidden it somewhere, then left for the day.

I don't have many contacts, but somebody-close-to-the-club that I know was telling me how he'd been talking to a member of the admin. Scotty had started calling this adminer up at 11pm at night with random things he wanted fixed on the website. If Watters wasn't fired, it wasn't just going to be the senior players who would have left. He was running around like he owned the joint, and getting people from every department off side.

We've had our share of disappointing coaches. But I have never, ever heard of any that were as bitterly, viciously and universally despised within the club as Scott Watters.

Curren told me players openly challenged him in front of the playing group. I remember Nick Dal Santo's stoush with him too. God awful coach.

Please go on...

The whole thing astounds me tbh. What an idiot.

There were times when, particularly the older boys, would have back and forths with him during reviews - not of the constructive nature, openly disapproving of his messaging to the playing group. Half the younger lads at the time including Tom were pretty taken aback but Watters' approach but the older guys had no issues letting him know how they felt - as others have stated many would've left the club if it wasn't for his sacking.

In terms of professionalism there's Ross Lyon at one end of the spectrum and then there's Scotty Watters so you can imagine the culture shock to many at the club during that time lol.

I remember being upset at some undermining Watters not knowing what was going on.

Got a PM from someone I know who is very close with someone I know and knew what was happening.
Once he told me the stories, I couldnt believe it. Moreso I couldnt believe we hired the guy. Jesus Christ, the stories on here only scrath the surface.
Kosi on radio bagged him saying ' that idiot wanted me to wear the vest in my last game and run through the banner with it on. Told him to F### Off.

I would have been amazed if I haf not known what the crazy little man had been up to.
