He's better than what we have available to us at the moment. For that reason I am not too bothered. Fee is rumoured to only be £1.5m as well, so not a horrible signing in my books.

From memory he was dodgy at Liverpool, fairly solid at Villa, and somewhere between the two at West Ham. I know it is very easy for a keeper to develop a bad reputation, but I am not one who thinks one or two bad errors makes a bad keeper.

On James, I'll reserve my judgement until I see how he organises our defence (our big problem atm), and takes control of his box. I know he is a great shot stopper, but great shot stoppers are a dime a dozen in this league.

Right with the Shot stopping abilities, but is suspect against corners and crosses from wide out. Can't seem to get it right whether or not he comes out to meet the ball or stays on his Line.
He may have improved somewhat but it's what he was like at Anfield

I'm ready to write off his Liverpool years (and would have been despite the fact he is our no1), we have seen enough young keepers in the EPL that have not coped with the early years).

It is his Villa and Hammers performances that form my early opinion, it will be his City performances that are relevant.

Fergie's theory on James was that at Liverpool, he was exposed by a back four that wasn't up to scratch. He was also too young when he took over the 'keepers jersey when he was at Anfailed.

At Villa, he was a more experienced player, and he also had a better back four protecting him. As a result, he put in his best performances.

Fergie was very keen on taking on James in the belief that the United back four would buy him the time to keep things organised on the field.

It'll come down to the City defence. If they can play well, then James will do well. If they don't, then the weight of numbers will eventually wear him down and the silly errors will start to happen.

Always sad to see great players retire in this way, but top marks to David for knowing his time was up and the always high standard he held himself to. Great keeper and as a former keeper myself I used to model my game on the great keepers and he was one I studied. Sadly for me I never became any sort of keeper thanks to a leg injury that slowed me down.

Still City have done a good in getting a solid replacement in the form of James. He was very good for Villa in his time there, save for 2 mistakes

1) His costly mistake in the 2000 Cup Final
2) His decision to leave us when on the top of his game;)

Still if Man City could fix up their defence he'll turn out to be a good buy.

I know. I was hoping we could have have found a few more million in the budget to buy a gun like Massimo Taibi from Atalanta. I've heard he is top notch.

The Blind Venetian himself. Who can forget his time with Man U? :D

Yeah to people who have watched soccer for 2-3 years that will be it.

I've been giggling for 8 years after watching Nayim lob him from 45 yards.

And what about Ronaldinho?

Women love him. He can shoot Seaman from 40 yards.
