umm, the guy has had 4 major shoulder surgeries in 4 seasons of afl...odds are, he's way too risky to offer anything for. one of the most unluckiest footballers; i feel for the guy. as unlucky as Brent Prismall doing his knee weeks before what looks like another premiership...the guy will probably get traded for beans or delisted at year's end as well, unless Geelong decide to keep the fringe player.

hmmm another injury prone forward, thats what the crows need

that would atleast balance it out 2 dodgy shoulders (porp and rusling) and 2 dodgy knees

To be fair, he's had 2 major surgeries. Prior to that he had a broken clavicle which is no big deal and heals perfectly well. More recently he had a Bankart fracture, which is a minor fracture of the shoulder socket and is a fairly straightforward repair.

No doubt he's got some problems to overcome, but I think you're overstating things somewhat. He should be able to return to football and still have full movement and strength, but he's probably at an elevated risk of re-injury.

it's symptomatic of the continuing breakdown of society.

no capital letters for proper nouns
no indicators used in traffic
no standing up for the elderly on buses

we're doomed I tell you....

What is worse is when people change lanes and they start changing lanes really sharply and then chuck the indicator on for about 1 second after they have changed lanes.

No one flashes their lights at you to tell you that there is a speed camera about.

People spelling things in American English really shits me. FFS it's gaol not jail.

seeing the crows need a forward do u think it would be worth the crows having a crack at rusling???? thats if he can get his body rite!!
Why do we need a player of Rusling's ilk?! Especially one with a suspect body that cannot stand up to the rigors of the AFL football?!

Besides, we have a genuine goal kicking talent in Taylor Walker and Trent Hentschel on our list. Couple that with the potential of Tippett, Moran and Sellar and there are enough forward line options going forward.

We don't need a quick fix. We didn't take one when we should have, we sure as hell don't need one now when we are not that close to being a contender.

Just pump the resources and time into the young key forwards that we do have on our list and we will be fine.

Tippett will be better for this year and with another PS under his belt. Hentschel will be better with a full PS under his belt. Walker will be better with another PS under his belt and some work in the weights room.

Next year we are likely to have Walker as the leading forward from deep, Tippett as the stay at home forward for the long kick, and Hentschel as the lead up CHF. Add some crumbers to that mix in Douglas, Porps, Edwards, McLeod etc... and you have a nice balance there.

Walker WILL come good. Look at the kid's track record. A major goal kicker regardless of what competition he has played in. He handles the transition pretty well and I am sure he will handle the transition to AFL well.

I would rather invest time and resources into Walker than invest into Rusling, who while good, comes with a huge risk in terms of injury. His shoulders pop out as soon as you look at them!

F: Walker - Tippett - Edwards
HF: Douglas - Hentschel - resting midfielder.

i would like to see dangerfield come in next season and play the role douglas was asked to play for most of this season. i think he'd be better at it than doogs given his pace and tackling strength. douglas looked to be out of position for most of the year.

i also think porps should be stationed in attack more often than not. i know a lot of people on here want to see more of him in the midfield, but i think his strengths are best suited to the forward line. his "x-factor" will also be needed in the absence of burton during the opening half of the season.

Disagree!

Dangerfield should be introduced through HBF/wing with occasional run in the midfield and forward line. The last thing we should be doing is throwing him into the full time forward role where inexperienced players would be easy to shut down.

On Poprs, midfield all the way with rest in the forward line. What we did with him before his shoulder popped out was the right way of playing him. He is a genuine midfield GUN that will get us started in there and help us generate enough forward 50 entries to kick a winning score. By all means play him in the forward line for periods of time, but he should be spending at least half of his game time in the midfield.

Ideally, you would want to swap him with Thompson. When Thompson is in the guts, Porps is in the forward line and vice versa!

If we could get him in the PSD then maybe...but we already have Hentschel who is a similar player and a much better kick for goal than Rusling. We also have Tippett, Sellar and Walker who we have invested a lot in, hoping that they will be our forward line saviours.

You've just described Tadhg Kennelly, not Rusling. Rusling's dislocations have all occurred during major collisions, the most recent of which (against Antoni Grover IIRC) spun him around 180 degrees in the air before landing with a thud. It would have dislocated anyone's shoulder. There is no evidence to suggest that Rusling's shoulders are inherently unstable, although after the number of injuries he's sustained, it would be reasonable to suggest he has an elevated risk of re-injury.

No, they're not at all similar. Hentschel is a nice player, I'm not discrediting him, but they're not similar in playing style. Hentschel is slower and takes far more contested marks. Rusling is super-quick and relies on his fast leading.

Yeah so is Luke Jericho, for what its worth. You also just described Andrew Crowell. In fact 100 metre sprint Jericho would look like Usain Bolt next to Rusling, and pretty good mates from memory both being from the Bloods.
I'm not sure if you mixed up your analogy, but there's no-one in the AFL that would look like Usain Bolt next to Sean Rusling. He is ****ing lightning.

The Ruz isn't going anywhere but straight to full forward in the Black and White next season. There have been some doubts about him at ground level, but he improved in patches (this this regard) last September, and without him, we wouldn't have run the Cats as close as we did. His shoulders, whilst injury prone, are MASSIVE, and he is as quick as anything. He is still contracted, and for a good reason, he's got all the tools.

Danny Meyer (Glenelg/Richmond) also could run Rusling off his feet, he too is struggling. There is more to this game than looking good in a straight line. I'd pick a footballer in the draft over an athlete any day of the week.

Rusling is a one trick pony, always has been. What does he do when it doesn't fall his way? opposition chop out his lead? team mates are not unopposed coming through the middle? what does he do to change it up? he can't take a contested mark, he won't stand on your head, no creativity when it hits the ground, little value in bringing fellow forwards into the game, and what is his defensive pressure like, with that pace he should chase, of course he can't tackle without risk of injury, lead, lead, lead, lead. That's his game, nothing more. Every junior scout will tell you the same thing. And that can be enough if you are exceptional, but he's no Dunstall or Lockett.
