I would have replied earlier but was looking for some boots to buy.
Had success finally (kinda been looking for a few years) there is a motorcycle shop near me that stocks them - Der Kenney.

My last pair of shoes were some (unused) surplus steel toe black leather Oxfords from the Italian military. They are pure heavy clodhoppers, but they'll last forever. Better than Doc Martens any day.

I wear them in the garage and no longer fear dropping stuff on my feet.

Hmmm, don't have a garage at the moment, just a workbench on the back porch, and as my vices only weigh up to 36kg, I'm sure thongs will be OK if I drop them.
