Look, people are entitled to an opinion on the guy – that’s well and good – but in the context from where he’d come from, you must agree that Nason’s 2010 season was pretty decent and a bit of a fairytale story.
This was a guy who was unceremoniously dumped by the Port Adelaide Magpies – literally overnight at the start of 2009 – went to Central Districts and played the bulk of the year in under 19s but managed two senior games (and was emergency in the Bulldogs’ grand final team of that year).
His selection in the draft was quite a surprise, despite interest from others, including Geelong, and I would have thought his 2010 season was well above par. Even most at Centrals were surprised by his impact in 2010.
Sadly he didn’t quite go on with it, but kudos for making it to the top at all against a lot of odds.
I wouldn’t be adverse to him rookie listing him … the whole concept is very much hit or miss, as evidenced by the fact that we are looking for a full contingent of them after axing them all after either one or two years. The rookie list is overrated in my opinion. For every Nathan Foley, there’s a dozen Will Thursfields and two dozen Contins and Westhoff who disappear as soon as they arrive.
That said, would be glad to have Nase back in a blue, red and white Centrals jumper!
