Dropped?

He was a late inclusion after 20 touches against Carlton ... even though he did ok against Melbourne do u think he will be dropped?

I can't see the point - he's playing well and hardly the rigours of AFL are catching up with him already - maybe half way through the season do what Collingwoof did to Dale Thomas and give Joel a week off perhaps.

KEEP SELWOOD IN THE TEAM!

The GFC's response the last few years to rookies like Selwood and the like has been to only play them (if they are good enough of course) for maybe 12 games or so regardless of how well they are playing. The very same thing happened to guys like bartel and GAJ when they first started. The reasoning behind the madness is basically to ensure that the kid doesn't get burnt out and to get their bodies right for that level of play. It would be awesome stuff if selwood and tommy could play the full season but I guess you need to look abit further down their career and see whats best for the club.

I thought Selwood had a fairly ordinary game against Carlton, so it wasn't much of a surprise that he got dropped. Did play well against Melbourne, though, so it'll be interesting to see what happens.

Certainly he's done nothing to warrant demotion, though that is not really the concern for the coaching brigade. I'd say it's a 50/50

Selwood should be the exception. He hasn't played truck loads of junior footy due to injuries so he should be relatively fresh.

DOnt think it matters how much junior footy they have played, AFL footy is a lot different and heaps more taxing on the body...

Didn't Balmey come out during the week and mention that, whilst Sel was scheduled for a break last week, his current form suggests to the club that dropping him for the sake of things may not be applicable anymore?

Given the nature of his game (kid works his arse off to run/apply physicality), and the fact that he's been playing (and will most probably continue to play) primarily in the midfield (as opposed to, say, off a flank - as is the case for quite a few rookies these days), I'd say a break (scheduled or form-permitting) will come about sooner or later though. Not many first-year kids can cope a full season with such a workload.

Yes Selwood was due for a rest week last week but it backfired when NAblett did his back. So I guess he will get his rest week this week.

I understand why some of you think we should play him but the club has to be able to get these guys through the year and have a program for each one. I think the rationale of playing these first year players in a sparing manner is a method of trying to prevent the 2nd year syndrome.

Giving Joel a weeks rest is hardly life shattering and I am hopeful Djerrkura will play this week.

We're all aware of that, and I think Balmey was too when he made the comment.

Essentially, he was saying that, although Sel was scheduled for a break last week (and hence logic would suggest it should simply be moved forward to this week), his form on Sunday would suggest otherwise. I wouldn't rule out him retaining his spot in the side just yet.
