I dont no if its just me but did any body else find it very annoying when bates and his mother were talking well the clubs were taking their picks?
at one stage they missed 3 clubs picks! I mean come on i was listening with a friend who was a potential and the commentators were constantly talking over the top of the picks. i thought it was a shocking coverage i mean really do you think the players listening for their names would rather hear bates mum saying how great it was her son was drafted or the clubs picks! and commentators were exactly the same commenting on every pick and talking over the top of the next pick!

At least they covered it 'live'.

No one else was interested and Ch 10 did it on six hours delay.
afl.com was 5 minutes behind with the news too.

Be thankful that someone covered it at all !!!!

Yeah, that was pretty poor...they killed an hour after the draft; surely the interview could wait until then as they'd already waited the best part of a round.

I was pretty surprised about the big "Bates Interview". Not that I knew who he was or where he was from and I am pretty sure that most of the people listening didn't care either that Matthews mum was happy he was staying in Victoria and now the entire family are Melbourne supporters.

Really these interviews can write themselves:

Media: I'll bet your happy to be drafted by X club
Player: Yeah, its a relief
Media: I'll bet your happy to be staying in Melbourne/Adelaide/Perth/Sydney/Brisbane
Player: Yeah, its good.
Media: Is your mum/dad there (while draft continues in the background)?

Media then repeats the same questions to.

I can't wait to find out what the families cat thinks of it all.

To be honest there was never going to be anything ground breaking with this interview so using common sense we should be able to find out more of the 1st round picks as they happen.

Glad SEN covered it, but . . . Mark Doran was poor, didn't know jack about any one of the draftees, which is why he latched on to Bate. Too many in the booth - and would have preferred to hear Billy Callan's views rather than overwhelmed parents.

The AFL really needs to have a mandatory 60 secs gap between picks. Otherwise it's just a slap in the face for those covering it.

I am a big fan of SEN. Great that they gave coverage to the draft.

Very disappointed, however that Mark Doran talked all over a number of the picks. I understand that the majority of the listeners probably weren't that interested after the first 30 or so, but many of us out there were. Like you Footy000, I was listening with a draft chance and the longer the draft goes on without his name being read out the keener you are to here the next pick.

Perhaps Francis Leach should have got the gig for SEN.

it was great to have a live broadcast and they did it well but it was annoying when they had an interview and we missed picks, they could have waited till after for that, but at least it was on. better than nothing.

Thank you very much 100 posts (holds bat up to crowd)

yep - definitely should've left the interviews till the end - very annoying to have them talk over the picks!

The AFL should've looked at longer breaks between rounds, to give the station a chance to commit to it's commercial obligations without missing the start of the next round.

And I wouldn't have minded them going a bit longer to recap the picks in a bit more detail

AFL.com can stick their audio up their a**. It was fading in and out so I just gave up and had my own draft an hour or so after it finished. Slowly going through it pick by pick and getting all excited at my own pace! Also, not having to put up with delays when clubs ask for more time etc.

Totally unprofessional - leave the interviews until after the draft!!

Stop whinging people. At least SEN (the best station there is, except Jason from Baronia - I love.................. Chris . . . . .. . .. . . . . .Ju ... . .d . . . .d), covered the draft.
Hey now I'm ewven whinging!!

Ch 7 used to have it on delay at 12. Now 10 have a look at who each club picked up in a 1 hr package. CRAP!

What did u expect Doran to do when clubs took forever to tell us who they were picking? Would have been riviting radio listening to silence for a couple of minutes. I bet that even though u didn't enjoy the coverage they provided, u kept listening. Why? Because u had to, so u know who your team was drafting. :D

it was shocking , you couldnt hear anything. people talking over it in interviews, and the hosts didnt have the balls to say hold on we will talk to you in a minute. shocking coverage, and it wasnt only in the interviews, there was the guys just talking bewtween themselves, about irrelevant things. i was p1ssed off.

I watched the entire coverage via the live webcast, didn't listen to Dopey Doran - on broadband it was fantastic, and heard all the picks and the interviews were great

SHEET HOUSE
Lets just hope they notice the complete absence of any feedback close to being considered positive and shut the fork up next year.

I don't have a problem with him chatting with Burgan and Sheehan during the long silences, but as soon as the clubs start reading out the registration number they should shut up!

The interviews were the main problem, they didn't need to be done while the picks were happening - surely they could've waited till the end

Or at least halted the interview
Thats what the AFL coverage did
You can still watch the replay of the AFL coverage on the site, it was much much better than the SEN broadcast, just that the link was so crap

Spot on.
I like SEN but as you say their coverage was very ordinary.

Why not conduct the interviews at the end of the draft.
Who gives a rats toss bag about a player talking about crap when the names are still being called out.
Its OK if you are a Melbourne fan but 15 other club supporters where trying to hear who they had picked up.

Mark Doren is usually very radio smart so I can only put it down to the producers.

Poor effort SEN
