Surfers and Springwood play their catch up game this wednesday, surfers win it will kill off Sandgates and Mayne's finals hope. Go Puma's

Sadly gents the end is near! But in a positive so is the pointy end of the season. The battle for third spot is a ripper, Surfers, short priced fav to snatch it, Noosa certainly not out of the frame to grab it given last round at the fortress, and Grange a little further back, but still not out of the betting with winable last round against Palmy (mind you the boys are in good touch).

My money will have to be with a Maggies Palmy GF, with the Palmy boys to hold on (for once).
Medal: Steve Brittain has been in very good touch this year (has missed a few late that may hurt) Jake Ryan and James Drake to go close!
Goal Kicking: Hard to look past Corrie.

I think Magpies/Noosa game this week will be a preview for this years GF. With Magpies winning quite easily no disrepect to Noosa, just think Magpies are a class above the rest in this comp.

Fair call Tiger, not sure I would have Maggies a class above! twice palmy had them with handy leads only to capitulate late in the game. And Grange had it all but won recently without a couple of really handy players! Certainly not taking anything away from Maggies as they have shown they are the clear favourite's, and them clawing back to win these games only highlights this. Still confident the boys can give it a massive shake.

I reckon you almost spot on.

Magpies vs PBC Grand final, Palmy hitting top form at the right time.

James Drake would have to be a near certainty to win the league medal, a fair effort for a 35 year old.

Corrie should just about wrap up the Goal kicking this weekend.

Bring on the finals. would love to see PBC vs Surfers first qualifying final

Springwood have forfeited Wed game and handed Surfers a finals spot. Would of got there any way, but Mayne and Sandgate have a right to be fairly annoyed that they werent made to earn it with a win. One less game than every other other finals side could be a help for the Surfers boys in the run home? League is kidding themselves to have allowed this to happen. Well done to Mayne on their year, and Sandgate have done pretty well also with a young side. My tip is PBC vs Magpies final, with Magpies winning. They have found themselves in a tough spot a few times this year and found ways to win, which means more than almost beating someone and having them find a way to win!

if this is the case then the league should be ashamed. no other league in australia would allow games to be cancelled in the first place and then split the points one game and accept a forfeit in the other. both games should have split the points. this is not a point bias towards noosa but just a ridiculous league decision.

gf to be any of pbc, noosa and magpies. any combination
league medal ben heffernan roper or cubby isles
goal kicking corrie everyone lese too far behind.

very interesting round this week. what is with pbc saying they will rest players is this smart play or do they not want to play surfers or noosa first week of finals. surfers in box seat for 3rd but will be tough for magpies to beat noosa at home with strong crowd to support the boys.

Are you suggesting tanking;)

By the way a number of people have suggested that Maroochy and Cooly shared the points for their cancelled game, they haven't neither team received any points.

therefore surfers and springwood should receive no points also then... correct?????
Difference is Springwood forfeited this game , maroochy and cooly didn't/ it's all ridiculous how Burleigh feel if Cooly got 2 points and Burleigh ended up with the spoon...

Not overly critical of the AFLQ generally (except with some past finals scheduling!) bc I reckon it would be a hard job to make decisions that keep all clubs happy from State league to Div 4 BUT in this case it is just ridiculous. The maroochy/Cooly game at least is academic and has no bearing on anything really but you would think that commonsense would prevail and it would get played after next week so that all players are on equal footing for goal kicking/vote counts etc + some blokes are paid based on a win. BUT not to play the Springwood / Surfers game, as has already been mentioned, has a massive impact on the ladder positions. Surfers were no montys to win IMO and I spose Springwood are just saying "why bother, it doesn't mean anything to us" but its not the point. Why don't all sides that mathematically have no chance to make finals anymore also gift their games to higher ranked sides? Its about the credibility of the comp and I reckon the AFLQ should step in and make them play. May be too late now but it should have been sorted ages ago when both sides had no real idea where they were going to finish. Really disappointing from a so called professional organisation.

Bornwinner,

Dont think the boys care who they play first week of the finals! To win a flag you need to beat all comers. Resting players this week is something Cresswell has done at the back end of the year to all players. It's no secret there are a couple of older bodies and with one week to go I think a freshen up would be ideal. In saying that I think most of their key players have been rested at some point already. From a spectators point of view and after the last time they met, a Surfers Palmy first final would be a belter (no pun intended), and on the other hand with the exception of last years granny, I have never been let down for entertainment with a Noosa Palmy game, so personaly couldnt care less who they play.

Will be a ripping finals series regardless! Will Noosa get back their skipper and Trompf? Will be the difference to how far they travel imo!

Yeah agree Kwhit - without both they are no chance IMO, with one back some chance, with both back a very real chance.

Believe trompf will be back first or second week of finals not sure on bova. I'm sure they don't care just a strange decision I thought

Be amazing if Surfers snatch 3rd as i still dont think they can do any damage come September. Disgrace what has transpired with the Surfers/Springwood game, as i said in a previous post game should have been played on the scheduled date and this amateur scenairo caused by the league would not be happening. Someone at league headquarters should be very embarrassed!!
IMO Noosa in their current form will not beat, from what i beleive, a full strength Magpies unit, even if it is at the fortress. Since the loss of the skipper and Tromph, things seem to be on the slide and other sides eroding their once "invincible" tag. Magpies are probably the best TEAM in the comp, however man for man i think PBC have a better list.
I wouldnt dismiss Grange going close to beating PBC this week. With whats at stake and the possibility of Creswell resting some key players and the return of the Brittains and Trewhella, there could be a minor upset.
For mine, Maggies to play PBC in the big one with the team with the highest score at the end to win!!
As far as the medal, well we all know umpires see it very differently, but agree Drake is a star and someone like his team mate Gus Munroe could go allright. Steve Brittain a gun and on his day unstoppable in this comp, Cubby Isles will poll well, Heffernan Roper with his sleave will attract votes. Luke faulkner would attract some 3 votes know that they won a few.
Where to from here for Cooly and Burleigh? Really dificult years for both and have obviously been stung hard by lack of work in the area. Sandgate would have to have met or exceeded internal expectations with the year they had after their onfield losses. Mayne have added depth to the comp with some strong performances, especially early and one thinks their very best 22 is pretty handy. Springwood on the back of sacking their coach and some handy mid season signings showed some promise, but proof will be whether they can improve again next year. Maroochydore seem to have a bright future on the back of their young blokes and a good coach in place. They will however want to add a couple of class players if they are to progress to a finals side.
All in all a pretty good year of PHC. One of the best things to happen was the addittion of the Under 18's to play on the same day. Makes a full day of footy and designates resources to 1 day instead of 2! If the league could now schedule one home then one away into the fixture and have a full rd bye for the Rep game then they will be heading in the right direction.
