I want to know how the waterboys/girls get there jobs at the footy....thats my dream job I reckon and was so close to asking one of them close to the boundary I was sitting on this year, how the **** he got his job....but I didnt ;)
 
A guy I know was doing it at Collingwood for a while a few years ago. His brother was playing in the under 19's at the time. Maybe it's who you know?
 
A friend of mine in Melb is a trainer for a VFA side, she has a diploma in sports medicine, in the old days I think it was a case of who you knew, but with all the litigation that goes on these days, you have to be qualified, so as the Clubs avoid being sued.

Also, I would take it you have to prove your fitness and now tell the players ho wcute you think they are...Anita! :p :D

My guesses:

* Your doing sports physiotherapy and you get work experience with a footy club.

* Maybe start off working with a local/amateur footy club to get good experience.

* Have a contact within a footy club, easy when there is someone you know.

Thanks GE! I got back from an excursion to challenge stadium today and notice that I could probably do work experience there! Is it true that in uni, you have to dissect a dead person? :(
 
well i think if it is just doing the drinks and that, theres no diploma required for pouring water into a bottle and giving it to them. LOL but if u r a trainer, u do need a sports med degree. Get in contact with the club, and see what they say, or go down to training over the summer, and suss it out.

It used to be who you knew, but nowadays you do have to have some qualifications.

I guess everything is proffessional in the AFL these days.

You don't dissect them. The cadavers are already dissected and preserved by the technicions and you just look at them in prac sessions. It's really nothing to worry about though, they seem more like rubber models than humans. Quite a surreal experience.

Anyway, physio friend in Kalgoorlie started as a watergirl for a local team, and pretty soon made it to team physio. She reckons it was the best job ever! ;)

So far in my first year at Uni I haven't been asked to dissect a dead person, but then again I'm taking the safe option in doing Commerce. :D

Challenge Stadium would be a good place to do work experience, or any sporting club/institute if you want to move into that field. I know the Eagles have a good work experience program!

I agree with dee_girl, maybe hang out at pre-season training and suss out whats happening, maybe casually ask around and see if you can be a waterlady. I can see it now, Pavlich marks on the 50m arc and lines up for goal, all the Freo trainers run out from the boundary and give their players a refreshing drink of water/powerade, Pavlich shoots.... he misses. ;)
 
Thanks all for your helpful replies ppl, I think it helped! I want to go into the Sports Medicine field but my grades arent crash hot....I am only in year 11 so I still have a year to decide what I want to do but the time is creeping up on me pretty damn fast!
 
Me and my friend always bitch about Melbourne's water girls, coz we are so jelous of their job! :D
I think that being a watergirl during training and stuff requires absolute nothing from you, if you wanna do it during the game the case might be different.

On another note, i am trying to score work experience at "Here for Life".... lets see how well i go! :o
