Serious Question

I am hoping someone can help me with a problem i'm having with my computer?

Whenever I try to post on a message board, all I can see is the cursor moving along and no letters being written. This wouldn't be so bad except that the cursor moves very slowly and 'jumpy' and the letters don't appear until the cursor has finished moving.
It only happens while I'm on the net, but my connection is fine. The scrolling is also VERY jumpy and takes forever to happen. I should mentioon that I am on broadband and the connection has been checked.
I thought it might be a keyboard or mouse problem but working in 'word' or other off-line programs are just fine.
Something is seriously wrong, and I would appreciate any help.

That definitely looks like my problem. I get a bit nervous about changing registry stuff, but the problem is still here as I type so I may have to.
I do run adaware, but is spybot necessary too? If so i will ad that one.

Spybot is the best. Make sure you get the latest updates for each on a regular basis.
Adaware6.0 is out now. How long since you've done a really proper cleanout of temp files etc, using deltree under dos?

The following will do a full clean. It come courtesy of Windows BBS.

Delete temp files in I.E via tools/int. options.

Configure CleanMgr to max settings
Go to Start-Run and type

cleanmgr /sageset:1
The above need only be run once (these settings will be remembered as the default until another sageset is ran).

It will present a menu select all, then

Go to Start-Run and type

cleanmgr /sagerun:1
As long as /sageset above has been run on this computer from now on the /sagerun is the only thing that needs to run.

Cleanups
These are for 95 98 ME only!

Boot to DOS (not shutdown to DOS). While booting hit F8 to startup menu. Chose"command prompt only".

Type these commands exactly hit enter at the end (do not type the notes that are in parenthesis like this).

deltree /y c:\*.swp _______(may get file not found, is ok)
del c:\windows\*.swp
deltree /y c:\windows\shelli*.*
deltree /y c:\windows\temp\*.*______(answer yes to all) "ALL"
deltree /y c:\windows\tempor~1\*.*
deltree /y c:\windows\history\*.*
deltree /y c:\wimdows\taskmon.exe
deltree /y c:\wimdows\applog
deltree /y c:\windows\spool\printers\*.*

Back to Windows then a scan & defrag.

you really are dumb, arnt you. I thought it was just a act you put on, but obviously not.

I think you need to take a look around at what Macs can actually do ... buggar all.

I have used a mac for the past 12 months consistently, trying to get it to half the things an old PC could do.

for instance: try to run your mac as a server (anysort) it is ****e.

stop making blanket statements about things you dont understand.

I know full well what Mac's can do. I work in a predominantly Mac environment, but we also have a PC so that losers can drop off their Publisher files. Vomit. Ever heard of an X-Serve?

Name one thing that cannot be done on a Mac that can be on a PC, you have negated to do so thus far.

Zeke, unless you can come up with a detailed explanation of why a Mac would be more suitable for someone in their particular situation, why don't you lay off that schtick? It's getting boring.

I switched to Mac OS X myself in March and it's the best thing I ever did. I run Apache & PHP off my PowerBook as a testing server for web design. I can use all the apps I need to, and open all the files anyone sends me. Most importantly, I can use Final Cut. BUT it is not for everyone. It DOES require a significant amount of retraining if you're used to windows. Some areas are still not strong (most notably gaming).

Your "suggestion" doesn't do anything for the original poster's problem in any case.

you work in a multimedia/publishing area right?

that must be why you are biased towards macs. Yes they are great for MM, but thats about it.

X-Serve? the Apple server?

If it is so good, why are the majority of servers run on UNIX/Linux??

you obviously havent got the point yet. Macs are good for very specific things. Unix/Linux is a brilliant at certain things too, but it is not for the average user. Windows caters for a certain section of the demographic as well.

The whole point i was making was that buying a Mac isnt a be all and end all to peoples problems, as you so obviously (and stupidly) think it is.

Go out and actually do some research before you come back next time.

obviously since you are so brainwashed into thinking that because you use a mac, it must be good for everyone.

Go out, look at the other options Zeke, you will find there is a reason why macs arnt in common usage outside of a design field.
