Be interested to hear everyone’s thoughts on this. I really think we should keep him in the backline during this early developmental stage, but he has the attributes to have an impact further up the ground. We’ve already seen that he’s great on the run, making a wing/linking-role a possibility. Also has a tremendous leap and fantastic mark that would be valuable up forward – the main concern would be his kicking however. :)

Personally, I would like him just to develop as a defender and stay their all career. Let him run and bounce from the backline I say.

bull****. He has shown plenty in the last 3 games to suggest that he could be a very good player for us down the track.

i would rather us perserve with sentanta then keep a slow, old injury riddled parasite like saddington.

His hunger for the ball is a real commodity for the team I feel. He obviously doesn't and won't be the highest skilled player on our team, but his effort gives inspiration to the rest of the group.

Plus the fans love him... :thumbsu:

Surely you must be joking?

Did a couple of good things against the Tigers but did u watch the first 1/2 yesterday especially the first quarter when he was up against Cloke .

Everytime he was beaten in the first and most led to a goal

Oh come on, he's shown enough to at least be given a spot on our list next year. I thought his development this year has been pretty good, and you don't get just get rif of guys who are as tall as him who have the athleticism he does.

As for his best postion, probably on a HBF. Let him use his height and speed to advantage, and this he gets lead to the ball, which makes easier for him as he doesn't need to rely on reading the play so much.

you'd be stupid not to say his gunna be a dud... unless he is riddled by injury... but a fast, tall, strong, athletic player should be kept the skills will come in time. And his brother WOAHHH taller, faster, more athletic watch out world AISAKE's coming

His first quarter certainly wasn't the best. But gee, Thornton, Silvagni, Sexton, McKay and everyone else has been beaten before.

yehh with his strength he gets pushed out to easily... needs to be taught how to throw the weight around.

Agreee completely. He seems to have a great attitude and wants to suceed badly. I've been very impressed with him, and would like to see him develop as a running half back flanker, although he could potentially be a wingman as parrot said.

i think Denis was teaching him a few tricks at quarter time.

I love watching his athleticism but he won't make or cut it has a footballer

I thought the same thing about livingston before he made his debut , that he would never cut the mustard

And I reckon cut him now , stop wasting our time

Give Setanta and Livo the flick

Yes I seen that, Denis pulled him to the side and motioned to him to use his body, get in front, throw your weight around, make them earn it.

give livo the flick... BUT SENTANTA!!!! hell no... his shown far more than enough that all the man needs is foot skills and his got it in the bagg...

I'm pretty sure I read in the HUN that not one goal was scored on him by the four opponents he had for the match. Every week you can see him improving, I reckon he's going to be damn handy for us in a few years time. Who's to say how much he'll improve, he hasn't shown any signs of stopping yet.

its because of his improvement that we will definetly pick up gibbs and not hanson. was a bit of talk that we may get hanson because of our lack of height down back but now i recon that o'hailpin has taken that spot of promising defender. im not saying that he will be better than hanson but that overall our best 22 will benefit by picking up gibbs

Think Kenny is wrong on this one. Livo is gone but Setanta is a very different prospect. Yes he did get beaten badly in Qt 1 but was very good in the second and third. Is showing enough to suggest good things for next year. Either way what are we losing by keeping him for next year? Personally I think he is going to be proven to be a real bonus pick up.

Setanta’s progress this year has been a massive plus for the Blues. Yes, his skills need work, as does his decision making, but Setanta does have several outstanding attributes. Firstly his athleticism. Can’t think of anyone else in the comp that matches him here – perhaps Buddy Franklin, or a younger Richo. Setanta has amazing speed, and being 200cm and 100 kg makes him very hard to stop. Secondly, he has an uncanny marking ability. And finally, and most importantly is his attitude. This guy is desperate to improve and star at this level. His extreme commitment to training has been well documented. His on field enthusiasm and attack on the ball is just sensational. He plays with passion and sets a great example. Enjoys taking opposition on, BTW, I’m seeing similar attributes in his younger brother Aisake. :)

Yep, put him on a wing and let him go. Setanta’s potential as a mismatch player is as large as Adam Goode's was. If he does develop, good luck to opposition teams trying to pick a bloke to go with him, or to try and shut him down.

Not too many 200cm, 100kg, committed, fast, athletes come along. Can't lose giving this kid a run!

Hey Parrot,

Think your points on Setanta are very grounded. You have looked at his positives and negatives with what I see as an open mind. I wish more supporters on this board could do similarly with all of the players on our list. If Denis could have exhibited a similar thought process the club would have performed far better up until now imo.
