Our biggest weakness in defense is against big strong forwards in the likes of Brown, Franklin, Reiwoldt, etc. It is always the sides with these big forwards that we struggle against more then anyone else which is why for me the sides that have had the wood on us the most are brisbane and st kilda.

While it was good to beat brisbane last night brown and bradshaw both killed us, bradshaw probably would have been held well if jamo was in since he held him earlier in the year but we don't have anyone to play on Brown or resting rucks like hale last week.

Setanta to me has the body size, the athletic ability and the strength to play on these types of players and although he doesn't have the talent of these players he is always going to provide a contest and he will also free up waite to be able to play the loose man floating back to help him out and go forward when needed.

I didn't think to much about it until the article about sending him to germany and thinking back his performances in defense have been good which makes me think he could be a major rock in our defense.

i agree. I would like to think that Setanta can get back into the side and hold down that role. Doesnt have to get 20 possies a game - doesnt even have to kick the bloody thing. Just contest and spoil. Get the runners around him to get the handball. We need his body size and athletic ability to play on the big forwards - at least until our kids get some size.

Agreed. Would release Waite forward and we can all see how dangerous our forwardline becomes with Waite, Fish, Fev, Eddie and Hoops roaming around.

Setanta can hold the position, but I prefer Waite. His evasive skills and running instinct provide a real spark. The trick is to not have him dragged back to the goal square by a difficult match-up. Having Santy (& Bannister) as an option provides match-ups that allows Waite to run free - and he's devastating when allowed to.

I really believe that Bower could turn into that running back in the Waite mould. Tall, quick, and he is now at a level where I think we can throw him back there with some confidence.

We also have Mark Austin coming through, and he's developing very nicely. I do like the idea of Carlos at CHB, with him taking the bigger bodied forward of the competition.

Bower is going to be the running HB we need. I love the big Irishman and would love him in the side every week, but i think the wise thing to do would be to only play him against certain sides who have multiple tall forwards / resting rucks who play forward. Likewise you could never play bentick and hadley in the same side at the dome because we need to pick quick players for the dome.

So I would play Sentanta against the following clubs:
Saints:
Roos:
Lions:
Tigers:
Hawks:
Bombers:

He had a great game vs collingwood as well earlier in the year so id say vs them as well and id play him vs sydney while hall is still going around because he would be a perfect match up for hall with the way he is other then that I agree with you and for the rest of the season play austin on the smaller forwards to groom him to take over the CHB role all season.
