Setting up a VPN

So, I'm a complete noob and I don't pretend to know anything.

I used the search function and got nothing so apologies if this question has been asked and answered already.

So here are a couple of questions I have regarding VPN's.

Firstly, are they really necessary in Australia? And what are the benefits of having one?

Secondly, is anyone able to recommend a good provider? (I've been looking at VyprVPN) Also, what are the different levels of data protection?

Thirdly, I live in a sharehouse where we use the same wireless internet. Can I run a VPN from my own personal computers?

Hamachi is probably your best bet..

Is Hamachi the right product?

What I'm concerned about is privacy of my browsing/downloading etc together with the ability to be recognised as a foreign IP on some websites.

I'm not really interested in setting up a network with friends or anything gaming related.

From the little I've read on Hamachi, seems like it's a bit of a security risk? Are you able to provide any more information?

Use TOR if you are really worried.

Also most of your privacy is actually corrupted through cookies/LSOs.
