Rough_Edges (love that nic), I think most of us that have been here for a while know better than to take things on face value especially when you don't know the source.

However that's not to say the OP isn't talking the truth but TBH, I hope he's talking shit.

More than just a rumour. If he is moving on i couldn't be happier for him .But there definitely was an incident that required hospitalisation and that is coming from a reliable source locally i.e more reliable than a city based newspaper.I thought long and hard before starting this thread for such a private matter but in the end i felt for the guy being chewed up and spat out like that by the AFL system, and thought if i could provoke some positive comments as it did it would be OK even if he or someone close to him happened to read the comments. At least they would know how a good cross section of football supporters particularly St Kilda ones felt about the guy.Definitely not bull$hit though and i really hope he fires in the SANFL.

This saddens me, I watch nearly every Afl game every week, I definately watch every saints game and I thought Birss was a very handly role player. He was hard enough, determined enough and his skills were fine. Thought he was definately handy to have on the list. I'm still dark we delisted Troy Shwarze too. He was another who gave us versatlity. Hope Birss gets his life back on track.
He needs to look at SANFL or something like that if he wants to keep going. Hang onto your dreams mate, sometimes you just need to take another path to get there!

I think there's been some really mature discussion here but my problem with this thread is not only that we don't know if it's true but if it is true it's really none of our business. Unless Shane Birss came out and discussed this issue in the media or in a public forum then we should leave him be to work through his problems with the help of his family and friends in privacy.

I'll leave this thread open for the time being while I consult Kildonan and the other mods to see if we should close this.

Without knowing about anything said previously on here, I can tell you first-hand that Shane Birss has been training very well with West Adelaide this last week or so.

He's fit, happy, employed and looking forward to a good year.

On a separate issue, West Adelaide, although doing it tough recently, have now overtaken East Fremantle as the leading State League club to provide drafted players to the AFL.

Apart from Sam Fisher, we now also have Rhys Stanley with you.

All the best for 2009.
