haha I tell you... when I heard an AFL player was suffering from depression... I was certain it was Wayne Campbell. I don't think I have ever seen this sourface smile a day in his life.... but I guess I wouldnt be smiling if by bad luck I got drafted to Richmond when he did and spent 11 years in a bottom side hardly making the finals.

Can't fault anything Crawford's done on the field, he's been an absolute champion for a decade.

But his off-field attention seeking antics have gone too far, especially given the current plight of the side. Last thing we need in a year full of rubbish is for Crawf to give the media another easy target.

So anyone in the public eye deserves to be stalked?? You idiot.

Crawford is a breath of fresh air for the game in my view.

I admire him for having the courage to go out and be himself in an environment where the AFL and teh Clubs and so it seems the fans encourage everyone to be robotic clones.

I look forward to the documentary with interest.

Be himself? A little too much. He's approaching David Beckham-sque type of rubbish hype proportions.

The one day you care about what a footballer does off the field, whether than what they do on it, you shouldn't be following football, you should be stalking that celebrity, or reading TV Weekly

He's gonna draw ratings with teenage gals wanting to see him half nude, Ch 9's squeezing everything outta him, and Shane Crawford enjoys the attention, so everyone's happy.

But the victim here is the Hawthorn Football Club, their captain's making a dill of himself in public while they're still doing crap-all. Where's the leadership from their captain on and off the field? None whatsoever.

He said football's his no.1 priority, well it's easy to say but he's gotta back it up with actions. He hasn't done that, the club's missed out on the finals for 3 years in a row and now they're gonna win the spoon.

He said football's not my only life, but it's your no.1 profession and where you get well paid. Especially as a leader of a club, he should be completely focused on getting his club back up the top, and don't worry about his life, captains have got to make sacrifices in their private life if they wanna be good leaders.

Last I check, David Beckham's hype is getting to him and his footballing career's going down the dumps. Let's see what happens with Crawford...

Politically correct view.

You can do more than one thing at once.

Crawford has been a very consistent player. To blame Hawthorns plight on one man alone is ridiculous.

Very consistent "player", Shane is not just a player, he is the captain of the club. Whether he likes it or not, he represents the club everywhere he goes, it's sad but it's the truth.

Not blaming Hawthorn's plight on him, the coaching staff and the other players are to blame, but with three years of failure, the leader of the club, which is the captain, should take a fair chunk of the blame.

The problem is the perceived lack of leadership - and the way the club is perceived with him as their captain. That is the problem. On the field he isusually ok - except for the occasional meltdown when he dongs someone - but they are fairly rare now.

Unfortunately to be a captain in todays football - off the field is all about the way you act and the message you send to the fans. While he no doubt tries his guts out - this larrakin view maybe ok for a normal player in the club, but for a captain he makes the club look like a joke that he is their only choice.

I can tell you if the captain of the club I support ever behaves like that I will be denouncing it and calling for his head.

I agree to an extent, but leadership comes in many forms

I havn't heard any of the Hawthorn players complain about the Captain.

On one hand people are saying he should be focussing on on field matters and then the point is made anythin he does off the field reflects on the Club.

He is a unique individual and should be allowed to be himself. Iguess its all a question of degree.

I think everyone is overlooking one important piece of information.

The program is pure and simply filler due to Nine not wanting to show the State of Origin decider live into Melbourne.

Just look at what's scheduled for 7:30pm:

SPECIAL: CELEBRITY SUPER POWERS

Renowned hypnotist Peter Powers returns for another instalment of hypnotic fun. This time well known faces include actresses Melissa Tkautz and Imogen Bailey, former AFL and NRL greats Robert 'Dipper' Diperdomenico, Warwick Capper and Mario Fenech, Big Brother housemates Johnny Cass and Jamie O'Brien, and Australian Idol singer Anthony Sumbati.

Need I say more?

In the olden days he would have been ifne as a captain - once again nt questioning him football wise - but footballers (captains more so) are no longer judged by their supporters solely on what goes on on the field. Off the field stuff is quite important. as well all know - the almighty buck drives the game and I doubt he is going to generate anymore money towards the Dawks with his antics.

Apart from that - who else in the AFL would be egotistical enough to have a guy with a camera follow himself around so he can generate some more publicity for himself out of it.

Indicative of where the playing group as a whole is atm. Why complain when he deflects the attention (momentarily) of what has been a woeful year (on the whole) from them?
I have no issue of him doing it as a person, a player...even a leader, but NOT as a captain. Schwab's biggest problem in coaching (apart from his tactical ineptitude) is his empowering of the players - unfortunately for him, it has not been respected the way he anticipated - captain included, and that's where it starts. Pevers touched on it - it's the PERCEPTION that it gives. Bottom of the ladder, ordinary on-field performances and the captain with an unhealthy publicity apetite - that ain't going to change things.
Love Crawf as the inspirational champion player that he is - just shouldn't now be captain.

I for one will wait until I see it before I pass judgement.

Well . . . that's just un-Australian!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Another fine example of Australian television at its best.

By the way, this is the sort of thing which will rate its pants off.

As for the Crawford show, Nine doesn't give a rats what anyone thinks, as long as you have a TV and a it's on Nine (particularly if you have one of those ratings boxes).

As for Crawford himself, well he's a great footballer, but I think he takes himself a little bit too seriously. Going by the clip on The Footy Show he apparently is naked when he takes a shower. Who would have thought?
