I think TVN were barred from showing mounting yard and other footage of the races by Channel 7 / VRC. So the best they could do is to have Shane and others in the Studio in Sydney. They must be so pissed off, the spring carnival could be a chance to grab some new viewers, I particularly can't be bothered watching 7 when they tell me how to do a trifecta and what some celebrity is wearing but I do like to watch the horses in the mounting yard.

Yes, under the contractual agreements between the VRC and Channel 7, TVN is barred from showing any footage from the mounting yards, doing any interviews on course, and a lot more... for the the 4 major days of the Spring Carnival.
Saying TVN is not happy with the arrangement is a slight understement, especially when you consider who owns TVN...
(TVN is co-owned by the VRC, MRC, MVRC, AJC, STC, yes that first one is the the same VRC who has the contract with channel 7
