Shark Attack Victim

Did anyone watch Channel 10 news tonight (SA) chilling account given by the poor blokes mates, one kid had just gotten out of the water and the lad who was killed jumped in and was taken almost immediately, also a German tourist had taken photos of a fin (huge)about an hour earlier in the same spot, then they showed footage of a fishing trip a couple of days ago in the same area and a shark was swimming around the boat - huge - then some rescue guy says the shark was as big as a family car, omg.

Oh I forgot to add the kids said they saw nothing until the attack, no fin, no shadow, nothing, makes you wonder if the shark was watching them for a while, if so a very cunning animal.

What pees me off is we allow murderers and pedofiles out into our community when they know what they are doing yet we kill animals that are acting on instinct. Yes I know there is a difference becuase its human life before animal life but that's part of the point, humans have a conscience.

What time were you down there? We went down for a swim about 6:30 and the police eventually drove down and told the few people swimming to get out.
about 5:30 i believe, everyone got out very quickly.

goalsneekA few years ago a man was mauled to death in about 2 feet of water off suburban Cottesloe beach. Each time the question has raged "To kill the shark or not". What are your views?[/QUOTE said:
The same morning of this attack someone was stabbed to death in the CBD of Perth. What event got the first 15 minutes of that nights news and the first four pages of the newspaper next day the shark attack and how it should have been killed.
Not as if the shark walked in the OBH main bar and attacked someone

Exactly. The poor shark is doing what comes naturally and how is he to know that a humans life is more important than the usual seal it eats? Some people make me sick. They kill this shark, what does it prove? There are hundreds more out there that would do the same thing to a person if given the opportunity. If the shark was able to be on land harassing humans then fair enough get rid of it but when people go into their environment fully aware of the fact it is a sharks environment, the shark should not be hunted. Makes me sick. Murderers are being given jail terms of 15-25 years for doing something they know is wrong yet this happens to a poor shark and morons want him killed.

Well argued and clearly thoroughly thought out. There is a school of research that has shown migratory pelagic shark species will often head inshore to feed when they are either incapable of finding their normal food source or they are injured. If such a shark finds that humans are an easy and abundant supply of food then they may resort to that more and more often.

Much like Humans in a way. If people get eaten by sharks whilst in the ocean, bad luck. Don't blame the sharks.

I was in the water at Brighton yesterday when a police car drove onto the beach telling everyone to get out of the water because of two shark sitings. Very surreal stuff, absolutely terrible for the family.
which beach in brighton???
The shark shouldn't be killed however something needs to be done to stop it attacking again.

I don't think it was an accident. This particular shark was hanging around the shores for days. It noticed an abundant source of food and waited for a chance to attack. I kind of see where Celtic Pride is coming from when saying "I have no sympathy for...". Basically we've forced Great Whites into endangerment. Anyone who knows anything about natural selection, knows sharks will learn and evolve how to counterattack a threat such as humans. We're not a new and frightening experience for a shark anymore, but simply a fish out of water. The young lad who was murdered did not deserve this at all, but humans in general may have. You can't expect to dominate every territory on Earth with such destructive force and not expect some form of globalisation (Karma). If we're threatening a species, they'll treat us as a threat.

This shark was out for meat and he succeded. Whether he'll return is unknown (although obviously not if they kill him). Whether more will hunt on beaches in unknown. But for science and ethics sake, let's just tag the animal and see if it returns. The worst thing we can do is go on a culling spree

Not where you come from they don't.
