He looks like hes going to be taking the steps this year to being a real quality player rather than last year there were times when it apeared that he was just filling out the 22.

Noticed he hasnt been named in the squad this week. How long is he out for? or will he be brought in as iv heard rumers that he was running well around Princes Park today.

Should be right for Round 2 by all reports, I guess the club don't see the point of risking a future star of the club on just one match, It's a long season and the game can take its toll on small niggles like this creating problems in the future.

Grigg could have been picked for tomorrow night, but Ratten opted not to, seeing as we already have Scotland and Fev coming into the game with an injury cloud and Grigga was probably in a worse state then both of them. Keeping him on the sidelines for one week will make the world of good as he will come into round 2 close to full fitness.

Yes we are missing some good players for tomorrow night, but we still have the ammunition to take down the tigers. Remember, we beat tigers comfortably in the end without Judd, Fev only kicking 4 with 17 goals in total and Johnson and Cotchin (who both did very well for the tigers last time) not playing tomorrow night.

Watching Robinson go nuts, throwing his body all over the place, Garlett being a handfull for the tigers, Joseph tagging Deledio out of the game and Jamison owning Richo, will prove to be a very bright start in a brealthrough year for the navy blues!:)

Once Grigga returns from VFL suspension, it wouldn't be a bad move to have him follow the gun midfielders to develop this side of his game. Watching the game last night, I couldn't help but admire Clinton Jones who has gone from a hack to a top tagger and survived in a top side as a poor kick. Grigg has shown that he can stick with a player after he cut Heath Shaw out of the game in round four of 2008. Shaun's Blueseum profile states that he also kept Goodwin to ten touches whilst he had 15 possessions himself.

Grigg has the aggression needed to play this role for Carlton.

That was a memorable play when Grigg beat three Port players to win the hardball and shovelled it out to create a goal.

Given our midfield stocks and the fact Grigg wasn't selected with Judd out of the side, I fear that he will struggle to break into this team purely as a midfielder. The one thing we lack is a Ling, Jones and Tyson Stenglein who can tag a star midfielder and get their own ball. I'd hate to see Grigg's talent go to waste and Carlton lose him cheaply because he struggled to break into the 22. The decisions to play Walker and Russell as a defender/tagger and a defensive half forward has taught them to be accountable players. I think the club should try this because D Day for Grigga as a Carlton player is approaching fast.

:thumbsu:good call!!!

The only thing with Griggy, if he does play who gets omitted?

Sure, when injuries are there then that may not be an issue, but otherwise who does he replace?

Down back he's probably too loose, up forward just no, as General points out his most likely position is tagging midfielder, however AJ has been doing a very good job as a tagger.

Yes, the MC has to decide what to do with him and probably give him a few consecutive senior games, but who gets dropped?

Is this a rhetorical question? If one to name names:

I'd suggest that Mitch Robinson's place in the team isn't secure. A developing player, yes. Promising signs, yes. But I think he'd be the obvious choice to step aside for Chris Judd this week unless he has a big night. (I wouldn't drop Lucas after 1 week.) If Mitch and Grigg are back at the Bullants competing for the same spot, I'd say Grigg would be even money.

Robbo in the side over Grigg for me. He hasnt been racking up the disposals but his hardness is second to none. He currently leads our tackle count and doesn't deserve to be dropped.
Unfortunately SOMEONE is going to have to be dropped, and I'd be thinking either Army or Lucas (and I agree about giving him more than one week, but it's Judd) might be unlucky, depending of course on how they go tonight.

But the question becomes, could Grigg match Robinson's tackle rate (or at least get close) and hurt oppositions more with his ability to feed it to other players?

I certainly don't know the answer to this, but you would have to say that across their careers so far, Grigg has shown more than Robinson really.

In the short term Robinson will probably make way for Judd. But by next year I think the competition will be between Scotland, Houlihan, Grigg, Robinson for places in the midfield rotation and the young boys are going to gain on Scotland and Houlihan fast

Going out to watch the Bullants today, and he is one player I would expect to get alot of the footy, and really hurt the Bendigo Bombers. Who knows, the MC might even ask him to play on Prismall, who we know will find a fair bit of the footy.

Grigga is certainly one player that should be in the side.

He has the perfect AFL body and move really well to the right spots. The only part of his game that let's him down is his long kicks forward that goto no one.

He should be playing seniors and having his game delveloped at the highest level. Many before him (Walks, JR, Army) have been given this opportunity I don't understand why he doesn't deserve it.

I would not blame him at all if he bolted for the gold coast.

Honestly I don't think he'll get much of the ball at all. Pretty hard to do so when you're not even playing!:p

I have AJ as our back pocket when he's not taking "shorter" mids such as Ablett who are quick.

We need a taller midfielder who can take the likes of Burgoyne.

I wouldn't have a problem with the Blues playing Walker as a defensive mid again, so I think Grigga might be up against it. :(
