Hammer played a good game on the weekend and looks to be deeveloping the skills he needs to picked in our 22 eachweek. his mark and awesome goal from 50 was excellent and his improvement will help Kruezer in the ruck and Fev up forward

There is absolutely no doubting Hammer's potential. He still looks thoroughly lost a lot of the time, but athletes like this just don't grow on trees. The commentators at the weekend were all impressed with his showing - nobody is mistaking him for a star, but he *could* be a ripper.

Keep developing him Blues. Teams would love to have the problem of too many quality big men.

Thought he was having a good impact in the 1st quarter but just struggled to 'clunk' a mark.

But then later on, what a goal. What a fantastic goal.

Keep putting the time into him. Will get better and better.

I posted this elsewhere, but I think Hampson is now getting to the right position more often than not, and is pushing himself hard for bursts and getting to contest a lot more. Last year by the Kangaroos game he started to show signs of this, whereas before he seemed to need a lot of direction about where to run and where to be.

I'm sure he still gets s a lot of input on this.

For mine, his disposal has improved, and look surer, but his marking needs work. He has a great leap but doesn't seem to time it well for marking often enough, and doesn't have a one grab "clunk" (as someone described) that you'd like from a ruckman.

If he can get this marking thing down pat I think his game will go to the next levell and he will be capable of playing first ruck.

The question is can we play Kreuzer as a midfielder/CHF, and have Warnock and Hampson in the ruck.

If Hampson gets the marking thing down pat he would be a handful pushing deep forward. Super speed, great strength and leap. I can't think of too many defenders that wouldn't fill their shorts as they manned him up in the goal square (if he shows he can hold the marks).

I can see the GC making a play for him though. Top 10 pick please.

I remem watching Koutas first 50 games..got the ball but didnt have a clue what to do with it..I thought he was athletic but a dud..Not saying that hampsons gonna be another Kouta but gee if we could develop his skills he would be very handy..not all players have to be superstars

Just on Kouta, the other day on SEN there was a segment on athletic prowess or something. Some bloke called John Quinn (former Essendon fitness guru and ex Australian T&F coach) and one of those boundary line GP hacks with Max Doran.

This Quinn bloke said he had no doubt Kouta possessed Olympic sprinting potential when he was at the AIS. He said once an athlete changes sports the training regime alters and that pretty much stuffs any chance of reverting.

They mentioned Darren Clark's disastrous foray into NRL. Fastest 400 metre runner in the country and totally lost on the rugby field. Anyway, as you were.

If Hammer develops then the answer is a resounding YES. :thumbsu:

There's lots of talk about how good he could be, and about trading him to the GC when they come into play.
If he does live up to his potential why would we trade him? Assuming of course he can fulfill his potential there is more than enough space on the list for him, Special K and RW.
I understand that he grew up on the GC, but that as far as I am concerned is meaningless, if he fulfills a role in the team then he should be kept on the list.

Spot on. The GC talk is irritating.

FINALLY some people I agree with about this GC CRAP!

Hampson is coming along nicely! I would never want to let him slide away from us. People seem to be wanting him to become more valuable in order to get a higher draft pick.
HOW ABOUT being more valuable to the Carlton squad?????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Please! No more mention of GC and Hammer!

If anything, we can offload Jacobs, as he doesn't match anywhere near Hammer's mobility.

2010:
1st Ruck - Warnock
2nd Ruck - Hampson

OHH YEAHHH!

Could somebody get a picture of Matthew Richardson and Hamo they look alike don't know if its the chin or what? Hampson looks solid up top, but i was more impressed on his defensive side, rather than taking marks, his ground chasing and closing pace on opponents was telling he was willing to do a lot of that and look more his strength?

We can play Warnock, Hampson and Kruezer in the one side, because Kruezer can play anywhere, and both Hampson and Kruezer can play KP forward easily. Warnock will be the specialist ruck, and Jacobs the backup. Really don't understand the logic behind trading Hampson. The guy could be a star, and is progressing very nicely. :)

Liked the Hammers game on the weekend, was a little awkward going for some grabs with the timing, but the mark and goal outside 50 was fantastic.

Just posing the question here, do you think with the athletic ability, speed, strength and everything else he possesses, that he could be used as a key position defender. I believe that as a forward it would be much harder for him to adapt to the game, in terms of knowing where to go and position himself, rather than being a backman getting to follow around the likes of J. Brown and crew, he could really learn alot.

I just think that he would be able to spoil most opponents he plays on, and in the process gets to learn alot about the game, thoughts?
