Whats happened to the big Champion ?, is he still about ?

I'll never forget the day he tossed off his knee brace, and almost single handedly got that 1997 flag for Adelaide. Much to my disgust.

I knew he took on a coaching role, but ya just don't here of him anymore. Is he waiting in the wings ?

He was the ruck coach for the Lions for a while.

Wasn't he one of the ones McDermott had trouble with tracking down for the past players reunion a couple of months ago? Seems like he doesn't want anything more to do with the AFC which is a shame because he was a crowd favourite during his time here. Stupid Ayres making him wash cars. :thumbsd:

I saw him in a lift with his family at the MCG in Round 1. I think he may have come from the rooms, but either way he was there watching the Crows I'm pretty sure.

I am pretty sure he was on one of the 5AA match reviews after the Crows played. He is a macadamia farmer these days somewhere in NSW or QLD. He talked a bit about what he saw in some of the kids and was a huge rap for Tippett who he saw play for the first time.

He is a strange character and I remember hearing Neil Kerley say that all through his career that Rehn had a very temperamental personality.

He turned down an assistant role at Adelaide because he wasnt given the top job and said he wasn't interested in ever being an assistant coach. 12 months later once things went bad at Westies he suddenly went off to Brisbane to accept an assistant coaching role which he said he wouldnt never do when Adelaide offered him the same role. He also walked out of the club in the first place as a player after a disagreement with Gary Ayres about him arriving late and getting punished by making him wash his car.

More than likely Rehn most probably feels that there is too much water to pass under the bridge. I certainly look at him as a champion player, but there were times when he put himself and his feelings above the club and suing the club about his knee injury wouldnt have helped matters either.

If the Crows had folded at the end of 98 would have gone down as the greatest player in Crows history. Probably the most important player we have ever had.

IMO his selfish decisions tarnished his reputation, which is a shame as he could have been known as one of our greatest ever players.

Agree he is a strange fellow but that is incorrect.

He turned down the assistance role as he wanted the senior job and had enough confidence in his own ability that he should have got it. As he didn’t get it, he didn’t want to be hanging around the club with that constant reminder in place as it would (A) piss him off knowing he didn’t get it and (B) if things went bad and the AFC went looking for a new coach, it wouldn’t be perceived that he was knifing Craig in the back; the same way people perceived Craig doing it to Ayres.

I guess he either had a lot more respect for Leigh Mathews over Neil Craig or didn’t really want the Brisbane job.

If you’re implying his selfish reason were the same as you outlined 2 posts above, then I would be suggesting it’s selfless, not selfish reasons.

He still is known as one our greatest, no question.

Off field stuff matters less as the years go by but his performances in the 97-98 seasons will remain forever.

Rehn - Pittman combo possibly the best ruck combo in AFL history:eek:

So walking out on the club after a disagreement with the coach about a punishment wasnt being selfish ???

Bringing legal action against the Club, over knee injuries wasnt being selfish either

fact or fiction?

The club or SANFL?

IMO, no as the SANFL didn’t supply a safe workplace. That’s not being selfish.

Clearly we should ensure that no tackling and contact happen in the AFL workplace.

What has that got to do with anything?

It was a bouncing plate that made teh ground unsafe. More comparable to a motor car being left on the ground whislt paly continues (it has happened at AAMI Stadium).

Employers have a duty of care to provide as safe a working envorim, ent as possible. The SANFL didn't do that with their bouncing plate for the umpires and as such were forced to pay damages.

Noone is sugesting that the fire department don't fight fires but meely that their trucks and equipment work.

That bouncing plate single-handedly ruined our 1999 season and any chance of the premiership triple. IIRC Pitman and Downsborough also went down with injury that year. FFS Mark Stevens was having to ruck - which pretty quickly tore his knees to shreds and resulted in the famous Ormond-Allen ruck appearance.

Who on earth percieves that?

He's just a quiet country boy.

He had full rights to pursue compensation for his knee, its not an issue of loyalty.

Club legend.

Can't believe anyone would deny the guy the right to sue over that stupid bouncing plate. He didn't sue over the two other injuries did he?

One of the all time great AFL ruckmen and still to this day in the top three AFC players of all time IMO (behind Roo and Macca). Aparently his son is a half decent player too.

I thought he was on a 5AA 'where are they now' segment last year.

He has a property out in Northern NSW in the middle of nowhere, just the way he likes it.

I don't know for sure but his lack of appearances at major functions would most likely be as a result of the farming season and the fact that he can't just up and leave.

The big puss should be well remembered for his heroics in the finals campaigns of 97 and 98. For those who don't remember, dust off the videos and have a look.

He was up at the Crows/Richmond game this year and came to the post match function. He told us he's living near Byron Bay (can't remember the town now but I did post it somewhere after that game). I am sure I read somewhere that he'd been picked up as a ruck coach recently??? Must have been dreaming it.

When Rehn sued - I'm pretty sure he sued the AFL because they'd put those ridiculous discs in the centre square and that's how he did his knee. Absolutely entitled to compensation as in the end, it killed his career.

sometimes I wonder if you really believe some of this stuff.

it was a workplace injury, and he was pursuing compensation against the league for the disc's in the centre of the ground which are no longer used.

There's rumours about that he's been sounded out for Hawks ruck coach, but havn't heard much for a few weeks, so probably another rubbish rumour!
Was a genuine gun at his best, and very servicable when with us.:thumbsu:
