Bombers coach ducks skipper's plea
A PASSIONATE plea from captain James Hird was not enough for Essendon coach Kevin Sheedy to open the book on his future with the Bombers yesterday.
Hird made an emotional appeal to Sheedy in yesterday's Herald Sun to stay on at Windy Hill beyond 2004 "for Essendon's sake".
Sheedy welcomed Hird's comments but refused to be drawn further on the subject of his contract.
"What do you say? I understand exactly where Hirdy's coming from," Sheedy said before Essendon's training session at the MCG.
"They're the situations you develop between a coach and a player.
"It's got him off the back page for the wrong reasons and into the nice reasons.
"But I'm not going to bring up my contract at all. That's it, forget about that."
