Old enough to see him play, maybe it's as simple as a kind of alliteration to his surname..'Shifter Sheehan'...rather like 'Nifty Neville'

Scratcher Neal is another interesting nickname of that era too.

I assume Kevin Sheehan picked up this nickname while he was Geelong. Can anyone here explain the origin and meaning of Sheehan's nickname?
I once went out with a bird from Winchelsea they called shifter, she'd make ya nuts tighten as you walked past. Can't say Kevin did the same.

Actually Kevin Sheahan was instrumental in getting Greg Williams to Geelong

Sheahan was from the powerfull Bendigo League ( somehow ended up at Geelong not Carlton )

When Williams got 1st rejected by Carlton - i think it was Tony Southcombe ( the bloke who wore glasses on the field and played a few games for Carlton and was also from Bendigo ) contacted Sheahan - and said to him that Williams should be playing VFL and Geelong should get him on their list

Williams said for another 5k he would have stayed at Geelong - but surely if a club gave you a chance after your zoned club rejected you - you would think you would have stayed loyal given those circumstances
