Short Anecdote

I recently had a former Bombers player as a patient at my hospital. Obviously I can't say too much because of patient confidentiality, but he won a few flags with Essendon in the post-war era.

Anyway, he's a wonderful bloke, very humble, gave the impression that he just loved playing the game and that the team's achievements meant a great deal to him. He had some fantastic stories to tell about champions he'd played with (although he was no slouch himself, he'd represented Vic in an interstate game) and he attended functions for his GF teams every few years, which he obviously got a real bang out of.

Anyway, it just re-affirmed for me why I have so much respect for the Essendon Football Club. Don't get me wrong, I love beating your boys, but our clubs have got such tremendous history and amazing culture, which is so apparent on days like ANZAC Day.

I really hope that as the two most powerful Victorian clubs, we can get back up the ladder and start smashing those interstate pretenders. :thumbsu:

P.S. Don't spend time trying to work out who the former player is, you'll only get me in hot water. Thanks ;)

You're mighty kind for a Collingwood supporter.....good little story:thumbsu:

Nice post, actually quite civil and humble considering your a Pies supporter. What you say is true, Essendon and Collingwood along with Carlton have not only produced the most successful teams onfield but some amazing charachters off it. I would love to get back to the glory days of dominating the league with you and Carlton especially if we are winning the flags!
