Been keeping a very close eye on LJ since he came back into the team and apart from a few flashes of brilliance has been very poor IMO.

I would have posted this a few weeks ago but wanted to give him the benefit of the doubt after coming back from a long lay off.

He lacks any touch, is mistiming leads, isn't holding his marks, isn't kicking goals but worst of all his forward pressure is absolutely pathetic. I know he is a big part of our future but he shouldn't be given a free pass into the team especially with his defensive pressure is not there. He looks dead set lazy at the moment.

I'm unaware of Danny Hughes' situation, is he still an elevated rookie? He stood up when he got his chance and id rather see Hughes get another chance than another couple of weeks of nothing from Jurrah.

Its a delicate situation but when Maric gets dropped last week for a good game, surely Jurrah needs a run down at Casey for a few weeks.

Hasn't set the world on fire since returning but he's coming back from a pretty serious injury and I think we just need to keep playing him.

Look at Colin Garland who also returned this year from a very serious injury but looked a shadow of his 08 self but only in the last few weeks has he looked like the player he was in 2008, give LJ time and he will show us how good he is.

Play him till Tapscott is ready, simple as that.

Tapscott can definately find the goals, has that knack.
Defensive pressure inside 50 would be a massive help.

Id give Jurrah another run next week, then let him go back and do
it the hard way, maybe run him through the midfield in the VFL.

Tend to agree, the only counter-argument would be that he does give the forward line a bit more structure. Also, if anyone is going to play him into form it would be Shitmond.

I agree with the points you make Rude, but I think a player of Jurrahs quality deserves another game against the Tiges to find some form.

I don't think he has looked 100% all year.

After last nights game I was actually saying it quite constantly, I think he should be dropped but don't know if he will be. It's a hard decision to make but if form is anything to go by then, he probs should be tbh.

But then again, we all know Jurrah and he can pull a rabbit outta the hat when you least expect it. Not to mention we got Richmond next week at the G' so, he SHOULD dominate there. (if he plays)

What would Jurrah learn at Casey ?

IMO he should stay and get as much game time at this level as possible

He will explode sooner than later

Its not what he will learn at Casey, it would just be a wake up call to show him that he is no walk up start.

I wouldn't care that his form has been poor as long as he was putting some pressure on the opposition when we haven't got the ball. At the moment though he simply isn't putting in the effort.

Interesting question, but while he had a shocker in the wet last night he's actually kicked 6.3 from his 4 games this year...with our forward line I'd take that contribution. We've looked infinitely better having at least having options other than Green. Yes Jurrah struggled last night and hasn't hit the sizzling form of 2009 but unless he is feeling the pinch fitness wise, he stays in for mine.

The lack of defensive efforts are what concern me.

Jurruh is a confidence player like Bate. After coming back from a serious injury more game time will get his confidence and spark back. If we add Tapscott we lack a tall so Watts will get smashed again having Jurruh there draws a decent or good defender so it helps the forward line. He isnt a 15 possesions 10 marks kinda player. He sparks the side kicks his 3-4 and will be a good lead up forward. Just give him time, if we allowed Garland time Jurruh should deserve it aswell. Maric got dropped only because Bailey wanted to get Mcdonald back in the side, Maric could very well be in the 22 next week if he has another good run and is pushing for a spot.

Turn him into a half back.

Let him do more running.

Just having him standing around in the forward 50m waiting for the ball leaves him open to these type of attacks when he isn't scoring goals.

One thing ive noticed about him this year, is he isnt very quick.. maybe thats why his forward pressure isnt up to scratch, we need him to develop a big engine so he can sustain a big workrate over a whole game, that may only come with an uninterrupted pre-season.

On the question of dropping him, im always happier when i see the teams and Jurrah is named so id keep him in for next week but if his performance is anything like last nights, then drop him for Maric

On a side note, what the hells happened with Cameron Bruce, hes been somuch better the last 2 weeks then he has been for years!

He should really but no. Doesn't play well when it is wet. he will be a better player in the day when it is dryer. He is still to lean to be up against the bigger players in the wet. Maybe when he isnt as rusty.
Plus its richmond. They might even put him in form.

Firepower these days is more about hard running breaking the game open not trying to get a miracle mark inside a zone defence.
Come finals though you need guys to mark on the lead and take contested marks (not big pack marks but one on one tight contests) and Jurrah is one of only a few we have who can do that. I'd argue its the same reason Kosi stays at FF every week instead of getting a run in the ruck.

Liam needs either to be dropped back to Casey or to get freed up to run around more. Watts seemed to play the whole time up the ground whilst LJ was stuck in the forward 50. Move them around more Bails!

Can someone please analyse our goal tally pre- Liam Jurrah returning compared with post. Jurrah's presence creates goals around him. I think you will also find that when Jurrah plays, Dees tend to win. Look at last year. Put simply, we are more potent with Liam up there.

^^Yep, opposition are still worried about him, even out of form.

To be honest, I don't think Jurrah has had much influence on any of those wins Nicko. He kicked 2 goals in each of his first three matches, but did little else. He doesn't gather plenty of possessions, he doesn't chase often, he doesn't tackle, he doesn't create enough pressure in marking contests.

We all know what he is capable of, but until he produces that again then he deserves to be in the firing line.

Bingo.

Turn him into a half back haha, only if you give Roo a run at full back. Get a clue.

6.3 from 4 games.

wonna is a LOT more effective in the forward line, and think opposition know they cant put a hack on jurrah thus taking away a good defender away from another player. Should at no circumstance be taken out
