Sadly, we actually have worse performance over four years than North had. 2020-2023, north had 12 wins and a draw from 85 games. 2022-2025, we have eleven wins from 91 games. But the difference of course is that at the end of their 4 year period north had received two assistance packages comprising five picks across three years, including three first rounders, plus other assistance. At the end of our four year period, we're still fighting to get any assistance at all.

Yeah but we did it to ourselves and Norf ... Didn't? 🤷‍♂️🤦‍♂️

You see, you are forgetting we are both:
1. Wealthy
2. Won a flag 7 years ago

Those two points, according to the wise AFL media null us from any form of assistance

Did it to ourselves with who we drafted is what does my head in.
Yep we purposely set out to use our first round draft picks on two players who were going to be forced into retirement through concussion.
We set out to draft the best rated players for our needs who had high expectations coming into the draft but who never could quite make that next step, Brander, Partington like.
Oh and we just love drafting players with our first pick who end up perma-injured, Jamo, Chesser.

Yep did it to ourselves by not being able to read the future.

'Did it to ourselves' is the dumbest argument for the laziest of people.

Every club who sinks to the bottom has done it for self-inflicted reasons. The issue is, the climb back out shouldn't be so difficult due to the massive advantages certain finals teams currently enjoy over bottom of the table clubs.

WOW, just wanted to check something out and was a little blown away with what I found.
Between 2015-2020 inclusive we only had 2 first round picks, 16/17.
2019 our first was round 3, Jamo, and 2020 we didn't have a selection until round 4, Edwards and Winder.
Does make it hard to get some quality kids in with those drafts.

Point out a club that had a priority pick with good list management.

I’m all ears vicco media

I reckon we should of asked for an exception from the soft cap tax for 2 years. Load up on development and high performance coaches.

Is the perfect scenario for the AFL.

We are total crap on field (which they dont care)

But we are raking in the cash (which they LOVE)

They wont care if we dont win a game if we keep getting 107k+ membership numbers
It sucks hey? We basically get punished because our supporters rock up

We should know the approval of the assistant package COB Monday 22nd next week

Fair chance there’ll be some details leaked prior to then as the AFL likes to drip feed information out

Today we had Cal Twomey on Gettable saying we are likely to be granted as many as 4 additional rookie list spots along with the ability to prelist our NGA players

And floated the possibility we might be given a priority pick of unspecified value to trade for a player

Hypothetically, what happens if we receive a pick to trade and no one worth said pick is willing to come to us?

I would have thought if the AFL is agreeing to give us a pick to trade, we have a target/targets on the hook.

Surely it's for Starcevich, basically a compromise for an exemption to not having our Oscar compo pick downgraded.
Otherwise we'd have to trade for him, and I can see us offering Hawthorn's 2nd round pick. Now we get to avoid that since I can't see us going the PSD route.

Why would avoiding trading hawks 2nd pick for starcevich be a good thing? Much rather trade them that and then use the pick they give us to get someone else as well or better yet use it to move up the draft order

Starcevich for free is a good outcome. It's not only what he brings to the side but as others have pointed out, who he frees up for other roles. He will definitely improve us.

Preferably though, hoping it's for an established midfielder. Can't wait for this trade period, it's gonna be a doozy
