I see people are on the doom phase of the hope cycle.

I doubt it’s too different to what twoomey mentioned, he’s pretty much on the money most times.

I’ll happily take the package given it’s been asked for. But the welfare club moniker will stick. Hope you’re all ready for that.

WC: hey mates, all the FS/NGA/Northo McCademies/FA compy rompys have reamed our second round picks during a phase in which we have been historically bad and should be trying to secure young talent, as the first round bloats into a haywire overconfected sushi train, what u reckon about shipping us a pick or rubber stamping a couple of the middling academy players that we have?

AFL: aw wouldn't wanna upset the draft order :persevere:

Because up until now we've been treated with nothing but respect?
Actually living in Victoria most Vic club fans do respect west coast club and fans quite a lot - at least based on my interactions with them. We (were/are) a force and will be again regardless of a few extra picks.

The purples, well that’s a whole different kind of ****ed up kind of complex

Yep, if it was a simple ‘thank you very much sir’ from Pyke & Co then it would be out by now. I reckon we should temper our expectations. Maybe Gerard ‘Gusher’ Whately was on the money this morning and the Eagles exec are pushing back so there’s more deliberation required.

I personally am of the view that we shouldn’t have asked for compo. We will get there again with the core of what we have (ie. Harley and friends), or not, and if we do I don’t want the purple flogs or anyone else being able to spill vitriol on taint.

Seriously, do you really think that Harley Reid is going to stay with us in three years time, if we haven't got out of the bottom four by then ?

The system is currently so flawed that it precludes bottom teams, making any serious headway in closing the gap between them and the teams above them on the ladder.

So the price you pay for keeping your virtue ( God bless You ) is sustained failure, because the triggers for improvement have now been removed by compromises that make it impossible to improve.

If the system isn't improved then I doubt you or your grandchildren, ever get to see us back on top again.

The AFL has now got itself into a situation, whereby its heading in the same direction as the English Premier League, there may be many teams in the competition, but realistically only half a dozen teams have any chance of winning the title.

, and if we do I don’t want the purple flogs or anyone else being able to spill vitriol on taint.

People who go through life not doing things to improve their lot, because they care what people think of them in the process, deserve to live with the misery that comes with not improving themselves.

The concept of just accepting a compromised system, sucking it up with out standing up against inequality, is a losers mentality.

Each to their own, but I would much rather stand up for whats right, work towards changing an inequitable system and take a bit of vitriol from others in the process.

Monocle - Im not for a second arguing the system is fair. The neppo clubs and the AFL are massively distorting ‘equalization’ .

What I am saying is I think we can drag ourselves out of this mess (as others have) without concessions and when we do, it will be all the sweeter.

We do need to draft well this year (as I think we finally did last year!), and we do need to add more moneyball role player types through trades, just as we look to be (Young, Butler, Starcevich).

I’ve also stated elsewhere that our number 1 medium term goal needs to be win enough games to retain Harley long term. Sure, compo helps with that massively but I’m an optimist and I’m optimistic on what I saw this year, mini, woosh, Harley, Shanahands, Ginbeast. I also reckon Yeo impacts again next year. 🤷🏼‍♂️

I fully appreciate your sentiments though and don’t begrudge the majority of folks on here for wanting compo, either. I know
I’ve got a minority view on this round these parts, but it is what it is. ✌🏼

We get priority picks , other clubs get propped up with money , other big vic clubs get propped up with the best TV game time slots and fixtures and other teams get academys

I would much rather have an academy with the same rules as the northern clubs than any priority picks

Sorry. Who else has dragged themselves out of a similar mess without massive help? Be it priority picks, f/s wins or academy kids?

People holding out for our critically needed list bail out, need only to see the fierce vAFL media dummy spit following Collingwood's PF loss and in real time, the unhinged reaction to Rowell leading the Brownlow. Eddie and the rest of the vAFL royal family won't be signing off on priority assistance I'm afraid.
