Should WA secede

What would they call this new Country?

Couldn't be Western AUSTRALIA ........ if they want no part of Australia.

Easy...Use the only word they seem to know.

Boooo...

;)

To interpret the constitution and determine if we're following it correctly? Yes, that is exactly their job!

absolutely agree but that wasn't the issue being raised. there job is to hand down decisions not assess if it is working.

If WA wants to leave, let them.

After they pay us back for the decades we were subsidising them.

Although really, lets just break up the Commonwealth.

Sure, just be sure to pay back, in adjusted terms, all the money that for decades those states subsidised Western Australia with.

ohohohoho

WA has given far more over the years than have come our way.

Furthermore, we were subsidising you in the years before tariffs were lifted, but in a different way. Protectionism massively hurt our economy, which is why we weren't keen on federation in the first place. Yet we had to accept it, because you wanted it to prop up your economies. So our losses were a result of national subsidising of the eastern states.

its a myth that WA was subsidised. The only reason it looked that way was because of the constitution pre late 60s that didn't count our indigenous friends as part of the per population federal govt allocation to the states.

perhaps we should actually ask the federal govt to pay WA that rightful money plus interest.

Ok, off you go then.

The continent is called Australia, so we can keep that part.

Most Western Australians don't call themselves Western Australian, they call themselves West Australian. So West Australia makes sense.

You pay more because your clubs gouge you for seating. Tough T**ty.

Just to be sure you are not under a ny misapprehension, the iron ore export embargo was Federal legislation & when it was lifted the WA State Govt promoted the mining in the Pilbara - if you have any substance to your motherhood statement perhaps you'd add fact to your post.

As for footy, its simply supply & demand, in WA there more demand than supply, in Vic its the opposite, aka too many games in Vic.

yet revenues continue to rise

perhaps the exploration and development boom has ended but the mining boom has just begun?

'the mining boom' is not very well understood by many/most people - the construction phase &/the operational phase. Australia's balance of payments needs an increase in the iron ore price or Australia will need to keep borrowing.

Yep, WA 'demanded' a team in the top league, the VFL had the supply and charged accordingly.

Never wanted to join in the first place, and is now never going to leave.

Would be nice if the states had as much power as they were meant to have in the first place, instead of Canberra just sucking up as much as they can for themselves and leaving the states to fight for scraps. Would go a long way to reducing the unease towards the east.

Having lived in the US now for the best part of a couple of years, I can assure you, states having more power is the worst thing that can happen.

No, I just dont think people who live in glass houses should throw stones, is all!

No surprise one of the biggest Victorian haters has decided to bob up just to remind us how much he hates Victoria.

You're ****ing kidding aren't you? Why don't you blame your own state government for dragging the chain on building a new stadium rather than bringing your underhanded anti Vic/AFL ranting to the argument?

I was responding to the accusation of gouging over footy prices kris, an answer to a misguided claim, pricing in this case is transparent - that you try (poorly) to misrepresent the facts as a criticism reflects on you. Look at reality ace, criticism is not hate .....

After reading some tripe here & on other threads, its pretty easy to see the bias, arrogance & 'hate' applied to places outside of Victoria.

If it wasn't for WA, the eastern states wouldn't exist. We geologically shunted you guys out from leagues under the sea.

You should be ever grateful.

So technically, we are your creators!

Er, I think that was before people.

Also their was no Western Australia.

So I dont think you can claim any association with continental drift from 200 million years ago.

Your comprehension flaw again - the comment has a context, i.e seat pricimg, gouging was the claim.

And who sets those prices?

It's WA entities 'gouging' the West Australians, nothing to do with the 'evil eastern states'

Interesting observation - thats the transparency of supply & demand. Excess demand & discounting real value, & lack of supply allows premium pricing.
That some try to characterise the WA pricing as gouging demonstrates their lack of understanding of how footy clubs make a profit without the scourge of pokies & associated social ills (as recognised by Geelong).

You were the one who used the term gouging.

And in a market, when there is unmet demand, the usual solution is to add more supply, not to restrict supply elsewhere, so as you keep using the supply/demand argument, I assume you want more teams in WA.
