I know a lot of us feel that Blair Hartley has been a little underwhelming in recruiting quality best 22 players for us the last few seasons.

Could we potentially bring in Gubby (who has quit GWS to return to Melbourne) to replace him in that list management role?

He's going to Collingwood

i believe he has lost a yard and his beep test is around 2 ;). Jokes aside the best recruiters and managers in the world are still limited by the draft. The draft will continue to hamstring us unless we suddenly become rubbish and drop to the bottom of the ladder. We cannot draft our way up the ladder we need to bring out the best in what is a very good team we already have.

I have commented before i would like to see another of Alastair Clarksons recent assistant coaches join our club to help out our coach. Clarksons tactical mastery in recent seasons has put him in a class of his own and his assistants are having an impact wherever they go. Hardwick of course was there for the premiership of 2008 and has pulled us up from obscurity to regular finals football ... but I am sure we could benefit from the guidance of some of Clarkson's more recent progeny.

Gubby is part of an old time world. I don't like the dirty deals he is alleged to be part of. And the noise about the Pies is a bit to loud to ignore.

I'd actually be looking for a whole new type of person to replace Blair and his team. I reckon that recruiting is getting very scientific and so it's likely the old guard are behind the times and best practice.

And yes, I support the job Blair's done. But I also reckon he is about due to have his role looked at. A thorough professional assessment, against every other club's performance. If he isn't top 6 then he probably should go. I have no real idea, but I'd say that he is probably top 4-8 since he took over. He's taken a train wreck of a list to pretty damn good by recruiting players of talent. He's not alone by a long way. But I suspect a good analysis would show him doing fairly well. However that's gut feel.
