Did anyone notice "Daisy" Thomas after his mark in the final minutes run to the goal line, look over the shoulder then slow down, allowing his opponent time to get close, before kicking the goal? This was in junk time , his side has been convincingly beaten and he still thought it was cool to be a smart arse. The kid can play, no doubt but there is also no doubt that he is a show pony.

Did anyone else notice that?

Nope. Didn't see it.

Yeah, he likes himself. Yes, he is a bit of a lair. It's what makes him a quality footballer and so important to Collingwood. The great things he does are only possible if you don't have a standard approach to footy, and doing dumb stuff is the price you pay for hundreds of special things he does. Don't get me wrong, I'd love to see someone run off the square and bust his ribs next week, but he is a gun.

agree with most of that but it was when he did it, your side has just been beaten and you still want to be a show pony???

I thought he looked around to make sure that it was paid a mark, and not a free kick to Carlton. Everyone else seemed to stop, and if he kicked it through the goals he risked giving away a 50m penalty if it was a Carlton free kick. I was at the game, but haven't seen the replay though.

I'd cut him a bit of slack - it was a good mark, and it wasn't like he ran a lap of honour after kicking the goal.

The biggest show pony act I've seen live was Nathan Brown showing North Melbourne the ball prior to putting it through for a goal. It was at Telstra Dome, when he was still at the Dogs. He also gave the section of crowd I was in the one finger salute. David King said Pagan showed the North players the Brown showboating at half time, and we came out and won the game.

I saw it as Dale NOT wanting to kick the ball high because it was not the right occasion for it. And he was hesitant because he didn't know whether he could play on as it might have been a free kick to someone else.

So you just assume he was being a smart arse? Typical assumption made by people who want to hate him because he's good. You know nothing about the guy.

.

Fair enough, I only saw it on the TV, you may be right.

I think this is probably correct. It didn't look showy to me.

For mine, I still can't go past Lance Whitnall giving the bird to an Eagles player, turning around and kicking a goal.

I'd have been really annoyed, but for the fact that Carlton went on to lose by a point.

Nothing wrong with a bit of show-biz. You'd swap him for Milne in an instant.

I have to admit I had a chuckle, I thought he was been a bit of a smartass with the stroll into the goals :p

Show pony maybe, class act definitely.

Daicos II.

High praise indeed!

Incorrect and totally unnecessary.

Your point is generally accurate, but there's no need to throw baseless (and false) allegations around to make your point seem stronger than it is.

But you get the general jist of what I'm saying, which in regards to the thread is the main thing.

Nice pick up though, considering the username. :)

It probably was a bit of showboating, but nothing to get too concerned about. He seems a touch cocky but also looks to be the sort who relishes the big occasion. What he does in games is generally very good, but doesn't do enough just yet. Very good young player.

I thought he just slowed steadied and calmly kicked the goal. A show pony would have kicked the cover off it from point blank. He slowed because he could. Can’t see the problem. That said, I couldn’t care less if he did do it to show off. He took a screamer and kicked the goal. I’d swap quite a few of the rest of the side for another of him.

In my opinion, he slowed down hoping to get cleaned up after he had kicked the goal, so he might get another shot and an extra goal.

As it was he got shoved just after he kicked it and Maxwell was trying to claim another kick from the umpire on the spot.

To me it was completely team orientated, prepared to take the hit on the off chance we got another goal and keeping the small chance of winning alive.
