Just out of interest, Mike Hercus, the long time USA fly half is now playing with Gordon, trying to get a Super contract for next year. Former Shore boy. Should get a contract somewhere i would think.

Round 1 results:

Randwick 37 - Uni 7 (!!!)

Norths 31 - West Harbour 29

Eastwood 43 - Warringah 19

Southern Districts 34 - Gordon 20 thumbsd

Didn't see the game, but saw the team, pretty young side and yeh S14 players unavailable. Didn't expect to see them go down by that much to the Wicks though, despite Randwick being a good side every year.

I love seeing Uni get knocked off their perch though i must say! Always fun.

Can someone please enlighten me as to what course Berrick Barnes is studying at Sydney University this season?
I am getting completely fed up with seeing Southern Districts struggle while teams like Uni,Randwick are always up near the top and win premierships all the time.
The article in the paper this week about the Parramatta Two Blues FG team made me sick, the Shute Shield is so uneven it's not funny.
Barnes should be playing for Districts or the Two Blues or Emus when he plays club rugby.
Unless they are studying at the University or are old boys they shouldn't be allowed to play for them.

Yeh Uni is a joke. Giving out scholarships and all that shit. So annoying how that happens. But they won't be as dominant this year as they usually are. In colts or grade they will not be as good as they normally are, they are not quite as deep as usual so i think it will be more even this year.

Souths will be good this year dude, they've started well. Got quite a few quality players over off season from Gordon in particular (after Lachie Fear left). Beat up on Gordon in the first round and came back to beat Manly, a good side, on the weekend.

I honestly think this year will be a very even comp.

The Shute Shield has become a joke in recent years with Uni winning it all the time.

They virtually fielded a Wallabies standard team in the finals last season.

It is a deadset joke.

It's good to see Souths doing better this season, I still remember that 90 point hiding they copped either last season or before.

It's a pretty good ground to watch rugby at Forshaw Park.

Last time I went to a game was a few years ago when Souths smashed the Canberra Vikings in the old Premier Rugby competition.
