Cant believe there was ever a 'Sidebottom is overrated' thread, and the fact that there was a thread like that makes him underrated. Clearly a top 3 player at our club from this years performances. Anyone who disagrees is kidding themselves. Considering he, Pendlebury and Beams are carrying the team, id hate to think where we would be if he was "Traded" at the end of last year, or "Dropped to the 2's" like a group of posters requested.

You are an absolute gun Sidey, and im ever so grateful you play for Collingwood.

I wish Sidebottom was our 5th best midfielder not 3rd.

He's been fantastic since coming back from suspension, really there's only a handful of players above criticism at the moment and Steele is one of them.

your a fan - he's had a good patch but not that good - rated fair to over. Goldsack was underrated for a looong time and Dwyer right now (tho tonight wasn't great), Cloke is overrated. Beams over (only because he's intermittent), Our whole midfield is down and I believe tonight the umpires gave a 5 goal advantage. Our game plan come to that was probably another 5 goal advantage... how much we get beaten by - I had to leave

His kicking is actually very good.

It’s Good but I find it can be better at Times.

His biggest Assest is how he reads the game and always seems to be in the Right Spot

Heard a stat the other day which basically said that he is one of, if not the best, inform midfielder in the comp... has been averaging over 30 touches and a goal a game since coming back from suspension.

Did a little comparison with the first round picks from the 08 draft.

Picked at number 11 he is the 4th youngest yet played the most games.
Stephen Hill (pick 3) is 8 months older and has played 1 less game. Those two have played nearly a full season more than the next closest, Nic Nat (pick 2) also 8 months older on 106 games.

Sidey avgs 4.18 more disposals, 1.1 more tackles, kicked 18 more goals and played 14 finals to Hills 7.

Hill is a rising star nominee and won a medal for best on ground in the recent Derby. His performance in the 2013 GF was rated at 68/100.

Steele has finished 4th and 3rd in the Copeland for the last two seasons and won a premiership medal in 2010 in which he was given a ranking of 88/100.

He has clearly been the best of the first round players and maybe even the whole draft if not for some bloke named Beams.

Admittedly, I put his name up in a thread a few weeks ago as a player we could trade for one of the GWS forwards but upon consideration would like to retract that statement and whole heartedly apologise.

If he can maintain his durability he is a chance to break the club record of 313 games held by Tony Shaw and I really hope he does. Maybe then he will get the recognition he deserves.

:) I've been saying it for a while that people see him on his own and assume that he is playing loose and a downhill skier " hence their uneducated opinions " he is always free because he gut runs his opponents into submission. and for his kicking " TradeDraft " is top 5 in the league on both feet not good enough for you ?

Doesn't get nearly enough credit for the gut running or his his ability to know where and when to run. He reads the play, outruns his opponent and hits the contest at the right time.

He doesnt hang out the back of packs waiting for a crumb, he's a midfielder who outsmarts and outworks his opponent to get to a dangerous spot.

A lot of his goals are from around the goal square but we forget he would have been involved in the play all the way from defense. He's a machine

yeah does beamsy kicking seem a bit off this year, I wonder because of his calf issues last year of he has tweaked his kicking style

May feel under more pressure then in previous years with team struggling, a lot of his poor kicks are rushed blind turn snaps that go astray.

Either that or its more noticable now we are struggling all over the ground and have many ball butchers in the 22.

Sidebottom is starting to take the next step
