How about 10?
I can name you five that played well and can name you another 10 that had alright games were they played there role and Sidebottom wouldn't be in that list.

Sidebottom had 23 disposals against Hawthorn in round 21, the fourth highest of the Collingwood players. Johnson and Hudson did not play.

round 3

He's such a great reader of the play, that 2010 gf replay he was amazing, also against north 2011? where he snagged 5 goals.
The kid can play, if we can get him on the same level as Beams we can be top 4.

I'm sure Steele knows that he requires more consistency in his week to week efforts.
But in his defence he was thrown around a bit last year to give him more insight in to the various positions on the ground. Even Bux has stated this.
In our best 22, even on an off week.

So round 21 doesn't count? Surely the most recent game is more relevent to the current level of development of the player.

No way in the world will Sidebottom join Beams as an elite player he does not work hard enough but he has the talent to do so.

Beams took his play to another level in 2012 and I think he would have back it up in 13 if not for injury he showed the club what they missed for most of last season.

Sidey has not improved greatly since he first made the team,if Sidebottom were to have a massive improvement it would make us a much better team.

"Third placed Sidebottom was acknowledged for his continued rise with the J.J. Joyce Trophy in the wake of a season which showcased his remarkable versatility."

He's a good player, but it's true he has kind of flatlined the past few years. I think he showed so much in 2010 we all thought he would be a Brownlow fav by now.

Also polled third in the Brownlow from a club perspective. Proving that the umpires agreed with the club's assessment of his 2013 season.

Where has the question on his consistency originated from? In 2013 he only had 4 games with sub 20 possessions and had 23+ on 16 occasions. Are we asking him to have robotic consistency like Pendles? Because his numbers have been bloody good over the course of his last 50 games.

When playing for a team that has had the injuries we have since 2011 I'd have thought durability would be worth its wait in gold as well. Sidey has missed just 2 matches since 2009 so 97 of a possible 99.

If anything I'd like to see him lift his defensive rating back to what it was in 2010-2011 and guess what he averaged 7 tackles per game across the pre-season. We really do set the bar ridiculously high...

Sidebottom is a serviceable player but nothing more than that.

Will he ever be an A grade player or elite? Not at all IMO but he doesn't have to be, we got the class in the middle that we don't require him to be a match winner. He just needs to play his role and work on his kicking.

His kicking and decision making is horrible and he must work on that.

We set the bar high because we want to be the best. We need to compare him to the best. Not the good.

Getting possessions is not as importance as influence on the contest IMO.

So it is consistently the best now?

That's bloody right. Never the threat of injury over him and that kind of stability makes a big difference in a team. Swan and Pendles are the same. Prolly put Cloke in that small group too.
Consistently good, but that's the problem, not that often a really outstanding contribution which we've grown so used to seeing from guys like swan Pendles beams etc. be interesting to see if he can evolve into that kind of player. I thought Wellingham was the better player myself, still wish he hadn't left.

He really didn't show as much as you say in 2010. Granted his finals performances were great but he was mediocre throughout the home and away season and on form should have been dropped pre-finals. The club banked on him stepping up as the 'big game performer' after his TAC Cup grand final performance and it paid dividends. Beams on the other hand was excellent all year, in our top six clearly despite his age, but did not step up in the grand finals. These couple of games meant that by the trade period people were saying Beams was tradeable yet Steele was a phenomenon. It never made sense.

Steele is a good player but was very overrated early. The perceived disappointment in him is borne of this. He has the potential to be very good. I don't think he has elite potential though. Beams was elite at 20/21 and will probably win a second best and fairest this year.

Cloke
Hudson
Swan
Pendlebury
Johnson
I'll give you Cloke. Grundy had a good game in the ruck. The rest were terrible. Pendlebury and Swan get smashed by Mitchell and Shelds in centre clearances. They let the Hawthorn midfield have a field day. Not sure where you pulled Hudson out from, he didn't even play in the last game v Hawthorn. Johnson? He hardly played in 2013. Finished now anyway.

Round three was more important we win that we set it up for ourselves for the rest of the season and Sidebottom didn't perform in that game.
