Why doesnt anyone mention the fact that Alex Silvagni should be on the field in defence???
He is an excellent defender and makes very few mistakes. He also plays well above his height and thinks very clearly on the field.
He saved us time and time again last year.
This is an error---and a costly one.Why cant a great coach like Ross see this???

The vast majority on this board have been saying exactly this for a long time mate, I hope you don't tihnk you hold a unique opinion.

That's probably been the number 1 topic on this board for the last week...

I'd settle for having him on the field up forward even. Might make a nice change to have a forward who can mark, or at the very least try to crash a pack...

I have been going on about this for a while. I probably sound like a broken record, so I will end my ranting for the return of Silvagni to the backline by saying, why wouldn't you have him there when he is one of our best KPB.

I'll f----in fume if he is forward if Dawson is getting chopped in defence.

I almost hope Dawson does get injured (just for a week or two, nothing serious ... more like a rest) or suspended so Lyon is forced to put Silvagni down there. Although he'd probably turn to Grover first.

Did Silvagni play some shitful game against the Saints? I still can't fathom what Lyon is thinking on this one.

Is it possible that this is an attitude thing? I've not met him, but I have heard bad things....

Far from it. I have spoken to him many times before and he's a great bloke (not as good as Barlow though) and have some Freo members over here that are good family friends and love talking to him.

It could be that Ross thinks that as defenders the difference between SNOS and Dawson is minimal, but SNOS is a much better tall forward. So whilst McPharlin and Dawson are fit it might be worth the risk to try SNOS up forward. This way SNOS puts pressure on Kepler and Anthony and Grover puts pressure on Dawson. At least thats what I'm hoping :p

I think this is most likely the case. Given SCNOS's flexibility, and the inflexibility of other tall defenders and our glut of defenders in general, they may have decided to develop him into a power forward. It would be some kind of coup if the move is pulled off. He's deceptively quick, takes a great mark and kicks straight. A lot to work with there.

I would like one of the local journos who speak to Ross regularly to ask the question. How about Silvagni, Ross? Where do you see him in your plans? Ross calls a spade a spade & hopefully we will all know. Is there an email address for Barra and Brad & Carl? We could start priming them with questions to ask during their weekly chat.

ahh....that's good to hear. I believe he had a few and made a bit of dick of himself at a function that my sister attended last year.......but really who hasn't done that once or twice :D

I only started this thread because I wanted to reinfore the fact that there are a lot of supporters who think he should be playing and the more fuss we make maybe someone will hear

There might be a perfectly good reason for him not playing so far. He might be a little underdone or Ross wants him as a forward.

Until Ross comes out and tells the public I'll take it as he doesn't rate himn above the other KPB.

I thought it was second nephew of serge?

Nope, cousin - got that from him directly so I am inclined to believe him.

Back on topic: he should be playing as I see him as best 22 (21)

LOL....yeah, I can really see Ross and the match committee considering Big Footy threads. :thumbsu:

Carita, have u not noticed how awful our forward-line is at taking overhead marks and converting? Zac Clarke is getting better and better but other than that, who have we got to rely on. Pav is a great forward also but he's not always up forward. I want. Silvagni playing forward cos hes proven as a great mark, great at one on one contests and I think he could work up forward. It's a waste him playing in the wafl and if he doesn't work up forward, by all means put him back to defense.

A more likely scenario is that we'll see an article on SNF stating that it is widely reported that SNOS is on the outer at the club. And then it'll be posted here - and some posters will go into meltdown.

Although there is a need for another power foward Silvagni as good as he is, is not a natural forward. He is a prominant backmen who can take a good mark and kick the odd goal for the team.
