Just a little part taken from the article in the Herald Sun today.

The Richmond big man is also bracing for a tough personal challenge against Dockers giant Aaron Sandilands.
"I love big challenges, we're both two totally different players, he's got the height and I try to use my speed and agility around the ground," he said.

Speed??? If Troy Simmonds uses his speed to his advantage then there is something wrong!
I had a nice laugh when i read that one.

It wil be a good challenge for the Snake anyway. Could also be interesting to see how Cartledge goes against the big bloke.

like someone once posted, he runs like a building. But he is a bit faster and more agile than other buildings, i have to admit. ;)

lol yeah they interviewed him on SEN this morning and said the same thing
Speed and agility? please..
we should play simmo on the wing and have edwards in the ruck!

what pisses me off with the interview is that we are now relishing being in the mix? it didnt seem that we were, prior to last weeks game Simmo!!!;)

Just once I would like to see the coach or a player say:

"We really are just concentrating on the final 2 games at the moment as finals football is out of our hands to control.
If by some chance we did slip into 8th however, sure we would relish the challenge and enjoy the opportunity but in reality, our young group is not quite ready for that next step at this stage of our development."

Nothing wrong with being understated and humble...

have to disagree. If we had snuck into the 8, and we regained the form and hunger and all that shit that made us look 150% better, back in the run we had against Freo, Bulldogs & aints, we were a top chance to snag 1 win in the finals in front of a top crowd and end up playing 2 finals. That is what pisses me off about this year and what unfolded prior to the dawks game. ;)

Yeah that's fair enough Coggs if we had regained that form as you say.
It just pisses me off sometimes when the dialogue goes along the "we are still a chance" line...
I mean, we can't be "relishing being in the mix" if it means hoping that we win both our final 2, and at the same time somehow The Lions lose at least one and either The Saints or Pies conspire to lose both of their final 2.
That's not "being in the mix" in my book.

That's trying to maintain some glimmer of hope! :o

Yeah, after finishing 16th in 2007, we really should have aimed to finish top 6 or even top 4 this year, shame on us for not getting there.

man go back to sleep...who said "aimed" fool? We had a a few chances and we didnt take them and then our "aim" would have been ahead of what we "aimed" for. So our next "aim" would have been a bit higher than our last "aim", stupid.
FFS, get tired of people being ok with the average, instead of striving for the above average, when the chance comes their way. When you are ok with the average you tend to become "mediocre". ;)

With cogga on this one. With the dominance of the top 3 and the rubbish results from the bottom 4, we have thrown away a gilt edged chance to get back into finals footy this year.

While the improvement has been sound, the team got itself into a position to make the 8 but stumbled at each crucial hurdle. We threw away the Dogs and Saints games when showing excellent form, and then failed to show up to at least one of the Carlton & Crows games. If those 2 points had of translated into 12pts then we could talk about a good season.

Relying on upsets when we could of been well entrenched in the 8 barely gives us a pass mark for the season.

We had a golden opportunity to bury some of the deoms of the last 26yrs and fluffed it.

I think you are half right Cogga. Its great to strive to achieve and be the best you can be but that also needs to be couched in terms of what is realistically achievable or you run the risk of losing the will of your troops. Realisitic goals gives people a sense of winning and achievement but when the bar is set too high too quick they just experience repeated failure and lose the incentive. I agree with where you want us to go to but for our kids sake we mustnt lose sight of where they have come from. This year, last to 10th is bloody honourable. Next year it wont be must be finals.

"Runs like a building"....gonna use that its gold!

I agree with this post, however we made the finals in '95 and '01 and failed to build on those appearances, we will only truly bury those demons when we start making finals consistently. We have to do more than make one step forward then two steps back as we've done in the past. It's what will happen in the following seasons that will judge any real success of this season, and given our history of the last three decades, I'm still far from convinced and am not about to jump for joy about this year's effort. There have been many good signs, but we've had many "good signs" before, there's still far too many of the same old bad signs lingering around also to start declaring the awakening of sleeping giants and planning future Grand Final day activities around us being there.

both times there were extenuating circumstances and in particular, in 01 there were excruciating circumstances. Making the finals this year and sticking to the rebuild, would not in anyway have compromised our position, IMO, even if we did fall back to the pack next year, as did a certain other side when they were going through growing pains, before they started to kick butt and continue to do so. ;)
