Last week , our rucks had the amazing stat of 30 more combined possies than both sandilands/Warnock...a massive advantage , effectively an additional Mid on the ground that can ferret and mark as well. Hudson will be stiffer opposition whilst Minson is more a KPP now...If our boys can repeat last weeks form we will definately be on the front foot:thumbsu:

Hudson is a gun at winning the contested ball, we should be aiming to have patto match his intensity at the contest and use simmo to exploit him around the ground. Definitly will be a one of the key matchups, Hudson has flown under the radar and has been a fantastic pickup for the dogs

Patto's stats are showing steady improvement, should take another step this week against the dogs. I thought his lack of speed was going to be a problem but with his second and third efforts in the pack it seems to be balancing out.

Hudson is not exactly Simon Madden.

I have fears of Scott Welsh tearing us another new one (Schultz for mine) and basically we need to smash them in the middle sans West to be a chance.

I'm optimistic that we can. Lyall Johnson watches a lot of footy and he reckons we will win by 34. Sure, his 14 colleaages in The Age think we will go down, but given a good start we are a real chance.

Interesting that the Dogs named both Skipper and Street on their extended bench. Darcy kicked four against us (three in the first quarter IIRC) last year and Eade will remember that. We might see either Skipper or Street in the ruck mix with Hudson and Minson alternating deep in the forward line, or perhaps Minson there virtually permanently.

I think consistently holding up and pressuring their backline run (something we've gone with the right lineup to achieve) and breaking even in the centre will be the key areas we need to focus on this week.

Cross has the potential to hammer us in the middle if there's not enough pressure applied. Cooney and Griffen are no slouches either.

Lock these two areas down and the Dogs are vulnerable, but it's easier said than done. ;)

Doggies have an underated list IMO. Just look at these players, all are very good players who are capable of winning matches by them selves imo:

- Brad Johnson
- Robert Murphy
- Scott Welsh
- Ryan Griffen
- Adam Cooney
- Dale Morris
- Ben Hudson
- Jason Akermanis
- Mitch Hahn

On top of this they have a series of solid players who compliment them well like Boyd, Lake and Eagleton

With any luck one of Johnson or Aker pull out (hoping Johno)

.

with the greatest respect UG, we've encountered a few better than scott welsh so far in our travels and I would think the ledger is well and truly in our favour with thursty and Moore.

Id go

Thursty---Johnson
Moore---Welsh...
sarge---minson

Scott Welsh, Thursfield will handle him no problem, although he will probably take BJ unless the doggies push him up the ground a bit

Mayte, is your memory vv short? Scott Welsh is exactly the player (rough and tumble, strong and a decent kick) that could sink us. Pretty sure his career best (7 or 8) is against us.

Doubt Thursty, as wonderful as he is, would be the ideal match for BJ.

Thursfield on Johnson reminds me of Gaspar on Peter Vardy. And we all know how that ended up...

Newman on BJ would be a reasonable matchup IMO. I would think Moore/McGuane on Welsh, Shulz/Thursty on Minson.

spot on uptheguts, welsh has always torn us a new one and is the exact type and size which we havent been able to contain for yrs, welsh, vardy, johnson, medhust, jones...blimey.. if dogs beat us in the middle doesnt matter who will play on him...

Newman on BJ .

that would be an atrocious move , BJ would have 3 in a blink of an eye...In any case Newy has stepped up into a HB/midfield role and doing well....Thursty will take him as the speed and agility...whoever compared BJ to Peter Vardy c'mon...can we claim Sarge as like Modra:p

- Moore to take Murphy IMO.
- Thursfield on Welsh
- Schulz on Minson
- McGuane on Hahn
- Newman on Akermanis
- King on BJ :o

Our defence is in trouble IMO. Need Joel IMO.
