He wouldnt be sitting still in those ten weeks , I'm sure that rehab will be attempting to keep his fitness up so at the end of the process he wouldnt be starting from scratch.

Maybe they shouldnt have cut up the bad luck skin and sent it out to the members

The concerning thing for me is that he has previously hurt the same ankle.

IMO will take longer than 10 weeks to mend.

Just the confidence injection we all needed to start 2007 :thumbsd:

Bad news for sure but still its pretty naive to think we can go injury free throughout any portion of the season, pre-season included, especially if they are training as hard as we would hope. Opportunites to test our backup strategies and besides, if there was anyone I feel comfortable about giving 100% to get healthy its this bloke. Only gotta look at how he turned his body around over last off season.

Hopefully that means we'll give Angus Graham a shot at taking on the ruck duties for the NAB Cup with Trent Knobel

I don't know if he can ruck but graham is built like a tank now,i'd give him a go.:)

We needed some good news

:D

Schulz twinged his too apparently. He did it before Christmas and again earlier in the week, but I don't know how bad this one is, hopefully just tightness.

I signed up for my membership and this is what happens :(

Just remember the Swans have made the last 2 GF by having their best players available at the business end of the season. Simmo will regain fitness pretty quickly as he would have a very soid base considering they have been training since early November. He will still be in the gym and they will have him doing some sort of cardio stuff to keep his fitness level reasonable. Even if he does not come back until 3-4 rounds in I think we can cover for him. Have a bit of faith that Knobel can cover the ruck with help from Patto for a few weeks until SImmo gets back. Opportunity knocks time for someone to step up and answer the door.

Simmonds won't be able to run for 6 weeks or so, but I'm sure the club will get him on the bike machine etc as he can in the meantime. There are also a heap of core strength stuff he can do that will build strength without building to much bulk.

Keep him away from the pre season stuff and back and firing by round one'ish.

yeh this nab cup points system is working wonders isnt it

why put so much pressure on guys in january ffs look at sydney they are dreadful early on but slowly get it together

where are all those people who were happy with the draft picks even though we didnt get a ruckman in the draft, pre season draft or rookie list!!!

patto should be dominating vfl not having to "step up" in his 3rd year because the club have no idea about recruiting

Jesus, you certainly are a pint half empty kind of guy. Personally I look at it as two more swigs and time for another one.

Simmonds rolled his ankle going for a mark, should they team not do that now in an attempt to stop pre season injuries.

We all want a fitter, stronger Richmond side, a hectic pre season is a large part of getting this. Unfortanaly injuries may happen. Trouble with people like you PLSC is if the side was being covered in tissues to avoid injuries over the pre season you would complain that the coaches aren't tough enough.

It seems no matter what the side does you are there to complain, maybe you should join some old womens club rather than following football.

its not about cotton wool its about being up for more than the first 5 games of the year and coming home strong like all the top clubs do

As long as we have a full list by round 1. We'll have about half a dozen players who will have to work their fitness up by round 4

sounds easy, but in October there will be dozens of AFL players who say that their crappy 2007 was mainly a result of a heavily interrupted preseason.

Candidates to say that from the RFC now include:

Simmonds
Hyde
Kingsley
JON
Hartigan
Newman
Coughlan
Knobel
Thursfield
Schulz
Peterson
McGuane
Krakouer (although not related to injury - well not his injury anyway)
White

Compare that to, for example, Geelong who has had every player in full training (or so they say) for 8 weeks - now excluding S Johnson.

We're a fair way behind most other clubs in terms of preparation for this season and the consequences of that should not surprise any of us if/when they occur as they normally would during the year.

For what it's worth.... (maybe we should be very pleased they didn't discover that he needed a knee reco too?)

Tiger ruckman's good news

RICHMOND ruckman Troy Simmonds yesterday received encouraging news after surgery on his broken ankle.
Simmonds, who injured himself at training on Monday, had a pin inserted in his right ankle on Tuesday night.

"They were pleased with the way that it came out and there were no complications," Richmond football manager Paul Armstrong said yesterday.

"He's still on track to be running in six weeks and playing in Round 1."

Simmonds will wear a special cam-walker boot for about a month.
