Are we happy with the change or deep down do we wish we could have worked it out with Brad.

For someone who had no interest in Simmonds I must say,
I have been pleasantly surprised.

He has something Ottens doesn't - cuhnt.

Good stuff Troy.

It`s not a case of Simmonds or Ottens

Ottens = no Meyer , no Pattison

Ditching him meant 4 first round draft picks , which no other club in the history of the draft has ever had , that will set us up for over a decade if those boys all come on .

10/10 to Miller for having the balls to go through with it .

But in any case I think we have been more than compensated in picking up Simmonds ...... just as the bulk of our list has been "Frawleyed" , i reckon Simmonds has been "Connollyed" . I don`t rate Connolly any better than spud and i haven`t for a long time so my point being Simmonds came over here a fair way behind the 8 ball but is getting better every week under plough , just as everyone else is .

Is a better ruckman for mine and has a lot more grunt and a far greater on-field "presence" .... has a touch of menace about him , something the big donut is sadly lacking in .

To sum up .... there are a 1000 Fiona`s out there but not to many players like Simmonds , another great move by the brainstrust last year .

I'm very happy with the way Simmo is working with our forward line and can relieve in the ruck. Seems to be presenting more often than Otto did, and has a lot more agility to turn around and get the ball on quickly up to the forward line. Working well for Terry. Having said that I think Otto will be a great benefit to Geelong, and wouldn't surprise me if he's part of a winning premiership side this year. He adds a dimension that Geelong were lacking and appears to be fitting into their team well. I was a touch peeved that he layed his cards on the table and decided to leave us, but we have picked up a suitable replacement...

...now with added cuhnt!

I have absolutely no doubt the club did the right thing with ottens. I'm sick and tired of the club paying players on potential and the money he was on was never gonna be given to him on his form. We got simmonds for half price and a heap of good young kids and geelong have got what they wanted for a premium. I would have loved for us to have got pick 12 and moloney instead. He's got a bit of grunt that kid.

You're right boys.

I was just comparing them from the viewpoint that Simmo has basically replaced Otto positionally speaking (along with Knobel)

End of the day it's a plus for all the names u mention.

BTW knobel is a better player under Wallace than he was under Grant Clueless.

Knobel has exceeded all expectations.

Ottens' ruckwork against nth was absolutely sensational. Simmonds was fantastic against the lions. Win Win.

The frockers could sure use him right now.

I'm delighted with Knobel. Absolute gem in the ruck. His workrate is improving every week.

It's one thing watching the naturals of the game
but it's just as good(almost) to watch a lesser gifted player work his ars off and give his all to a club,.
Knobel is a likable character that is having an impact.
What we're seeing atm is a team of guys who are happy about playing football under a worthy mentor.

I gotta admit I was a fan of Ottens and would have loved to see him stay. At the end of the day he must have known there was no way he could avoid a pay cut and stay. He simply didnt justify the salary with recent performances. Its sad that loyalty has a price but then again they are in the game only a short time so they have to maximise revenue.

That said..I also couldnt be happier with the development of Simmonds and Knobel. Taking Ox'x point..when you got someone giving 100% 100% of the time...the skill differences diminish. Ottens is silkier but in a dog fight when it was on the line...gimmie these two!

I was extremely sceptical about taking this bloke, but his efforts and mannersisms give him the potential to become a cult-hero in the same mould as Benny Gale down at Punt Rd. I especially like the way he has thrown himself at a couple of tackles and smothers while he has been on the ground. They may not have been effective, but it is quite comical to see a big lanky lad try and have a go at things like that.

Rebuilding:
Meyer & Pattison > Ottens.

5 first round draft picks was needed.

Throw in Simmonds who is a similar footballer to Ottens for Firoa and we have done very well in hindside.

Gotta say Knobel has been impressive.

im very happy with simmonds, hes slotting in well and imporving under wallace, hes also losing some of his bulk which will enable him to become a better around the ground ruckman, apart from the obvious that releasing otto gave us draft picks, simmonds is also on abt 200k less per season than what we were paying otto, so great value

One of the leauges most underrated at Freo and hitting form in the last few.
He's in my dream team so he better bloody keep it up :D

I was a fan of Ottens and disappointed to see him leave. But when you are in as bad a shape as we were at the end of last seasons you need to make hard decisions, so I supported trading him off to put us in a better position. I think he will improve a fair bit at Geelong on the last couple of years.

But Simmonds and Knobel have been very good replacements and their ruckwork has played a big part in our improvement. How they go the next couple of weeks against the likes of White and Cox could play a big part in how we go. As long as our midfielders get first use of the ball it keeps us ahead of the eightball.

absolute spot on...coming last is a train wreck and to rise from the ashes , the mix needs to be changed...ottens proved what he could contribute , sweet fu$%^ all....Simmo is now playing with presence , the team is using him and he is creative....a definite improvement....

NB....how do our clearances look this year with Knobes/simmo/staff in the frame compared to Otto during the frawley famine era

Simmonds vs Ottens.......Ottens, but only by a bee's dik.
However........Simmonds+Pattison+Meyer > Ottens+Fiora

Simmonds + Pattison + Meyer = ~$450k
Ottens + Fiora = ~$650k

When you factor in the $200k saving then it is even better for us. (Have to pay off that debt).

Simmonds is better than Ottens for RFC. He is bigger, stronger and has heart.

Ottens may have more potential, but he's got the heart the size of a pea. He's also slow and dopey.

Ottens has hardly dominated for Geelong. It's Geelong's midfield that are the stars of their team, not Brad Ottens.
